All pets welcome at annual blessing Saturday, Oct. 6
The Fifth Annual “Blessing of the Animals” in recognition of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals and the environment will be held in Lily Dale on Saturday, Oct. 6, at 2 p.m. at the Wolf Clan Stump Circle on Cleveland Avenue.
This outdoor service is sponsored by the Church of the Living Spirit and the Lily Dale Assembly to give thanks for all the special animals in our lives and those who have passed on.
The Rev. Joanne Copley-Nigro will preside over the service to bless the animals, raise awareness and funds for our local pet organizations, Lakeshore Humane Society and Northern Chautauqua Canine Rescue. Bring a donation of money or pet food to be distributed to these organizations. Those attending the blessing will receive a healing ribbon, prayer card and pet treat.
Each animal must be on a leash or in a pet carrier and be people and pet friendly. Participants are reminded to bring water and clean up bags for their pet as well as lawn chairs, blankets and umbrellas for comfort. There will also be pet-themed basket raffles with part of the proceeds to benefit the animals.
Participants are welcome to bring a photo of their pets if the pet cannot be present. “In Lily Dale we honor nature and animals and are grateful to share this special day celebrating St Francis and the animals.” said Rev. Joanne Copley-Nigro.
