Blood drive to help Sharon Acdkendorf

Sharon Ackendorf

WESTFIELD — An American Red Cross blood drive will take place today from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Saint Peter’s Episcopal Church in honor of Sharon Ackendorf.

Join the fun, help save a life and support this effort to raise money for Sharon! Donors will be treated to a light lunch. There will be a Chinese auction with drawing at 4:15 p.m. You will not want to pass by this opportunity to win cash certificates and choose from a beautiful assortment of raffle baskets that have been very generously donated! These are high end items, so don’t miss out!

All proceeds to help offset Sharon’s medical costs.

Sharon’s Story

Sharon has Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS) with deletion 5q chromosome. This means that her bone marrow does not make enough mature blood cells and will most likely require her to have blood transfusions. This disease leaves Sharon with persistent anemia, resulting in fatigue, easy bleeding and bruising, with difficulty functioning on a daily basis. Due to this rare condition, the medication she must take has a very high price tag. Sharon has served our community for nearly 30 years and has given us her gift of cooking (including the Soup Kitchen), helped those in need, comforting words, her Faith and a very giving heart.

The blood drive will take place in the church’s main hall, 12 Elm St., Westfield. Contact 326-2064 for more information.
