Lisa Glasier

Lisa Glasier to speak to Unitarian Universalist Congregation

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Northern Chautauqua welcomes Lisa Glasier to the pulpit on Sunday, Oct. 7. Glasier, a happy sojourner as well as a certified Clinical Exercise Specialist, Health Coach, Reiki practitioner and local business owner, spends a lot of time thinking about what sanctuary means and where one can find it. Come listen to her heartfelt testimony of how she has found sanctuary in this busy world by looking within.

Church of the Living Spirit

This week’s speaker is Joanne Copley-Nigro. Church services are held every Sunday in the Assembly Hall on Cleveland Avenue in Lily Dale.

Service time is 10:30 a.m. to noon and consists of a spiritual talk, a hands-on healing, a message demonstration, music, meditation and prayer.

St. John’s Episcopal Church ‘Blessing of Pets’ Sunday

All pets and owners are invited to a “Blessing of Pets” at St. John’s Episcopal Church on Sunday, Oct. 7 at 12:30 p.m.

The traditional service is held to commemorate the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi. Born in a wealthy family, Francis was used to a life of luxury. In his early twenties, after hearing the voice of Jesus, he abandoned this life. Jesus had commanded him to rebuild the Christian Church and live in poverty.

Francis continued a life dedicated to the teachings of Jesus. He ministered to lepers, brought may to Christ and developed a love of nature and animals.

St. Francis is known as the patron saint of the animals and the environment. If there are children with stuffed animals, they will also be blessed with their owners

St. John’s is located on the corner of West Fourth Street and Lark Street in Dunkirk.

Annual Life Chain Sunday

On Sunday, Oct. 7 from 2 to 3 p.m. there will be a public witness to the sanctity of life on the main streets of Dunkirk. Signs and directions will be available at Blessed Mary Angela, St. Hyacinth’s site, Route 5, Dunkirk at 1:30 p.m. Call Pat at 207-6509 for details. Afterwards, light refreshments will be served at the Lyceum, 15 N. Pangolin St.

St. Joseph Church in Fredonia Altar and Rosary Society plans card party

The Altar and Rosary Society of St. Joseph Church in Fredonia will be hosting its monthly Dessert Card Party on Wednesday, Oct. 10. The card party takes place in the Gathering Room of St. Joseph Church, 145 E. Main St. Admission is $4. Coffee, dessert, table and door prizes are provided.

Blessed Mary Angela’s Rosary Society welcomes public to “Living Rosary” Oct. 10

The Rosary Society of Blessed Mary Angela Parish is sponsoring the “Living Rosary” on Wednesday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. at the St. Hyacinth’s worship site at 295 Lake Shore Drive East in Dunkirk.

The “Living Rosary” is a beautiful tribute to the Mother of Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The Blessed Mother appeared to three children at Fatima, Portugal in 1917, requesting them and everyone to pray and promote the recitation of the Rosary for world peace.

With so much turmoil, not only in our country, but all over the world, the need for prayer is most needed today and every day to end wars, terrorism, addictions, discrimination and all other problems and to bring peace and unity among them.

All members of the community are welcome to attend this event. A reception will follow in the Parish Lyceum.

Blessed Mary Angela’s Holy Name Society to hold dinner Thursday

Blessed Mary Angela’s Holy Name Society will hold a chicken parmigiana dinner on Thursday, Oct. 11 at the Blessed Mary Angela Social Center, 324 Townsend St., Dunkirk. Dinner will be served from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Eat in or take out dining options are available, as well as drive-through pick-up. The menu includes chicken parmigiana, pasta/sauce, tossed salad, bread with butter, hot apple crisp and coffee or cider. The donation is $10 per dinner.

Tickets are available after every Mass at St. Hyacinth’s or St. Hedwig’s churches and Big Rick’s One Stop, 327 Lake Shore Drive E., Dunkirk. Limited number of tickets available.

Silver Creek Assembly of God Church spaghetti dinner set for Thursday

The Silver Creek Assembly of God Church will host a spaghetti dinner on Thursday, Oct. 10 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at 1385 Route 20, Silver Creek. Dining options include eat-in or take-out. The dinner is open to community. There is no fixed charge. Donations are gratefully accepted.

Ripley United Methodist Church breakfast Oct. 13

Ripley United Methodist Church is holding an All-You-Can-Eat Breakfast on Saturday, Oct. 13 from 7:30 to 11 a.m. The menu includes pancakes, sausage, bacon, made-to-order eggs and toast (including omelets), fried potatoes, biscuits and sausage gravy, orange juice and coffee. The cost is $7 for “all you can eat.”

This month’s breakfast will benefit the Ripley Hose Auxiliary for its Visit with Santa.

St. John’s United Church of Christ Christmas Bazaar only rummage sale set for Oct. 13

St. John’s United Church of Christ will hold a Christmas Bazaar only rummage sale on Saturday, Oct. 13, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the fellowship room at 733 Central Ave., Dunkirk. Only Christmas items will be sold – tree stands, artificial trees, some with lights, ornaments to decorate with, linens and more. For details, call Nancy at 969-4250.

Church of the Living Spirit presents Find Your Healing Voice workshop

Church of the Living Spirit will present a workshop entitled “Find Your Healing Voice” with Tom Cratsley on Saturday, Oct. 13 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The event will take place at Assembly Hall, Cleveland Avenue, Lily Dale. The cost is $50 per person. Learn through experiential exercises how to merge the voice with inner guidance to produce healing tones. Project tones to enhance spiritual healing for self and others. The speaker has worked in the fields of counseling, spiritual healing and teaching for over 30 years and is the creator and developer of the Restructuring method of accessing, releasing and transforming unconscious resistance patterns. Mass of the Anointing of the Sick scheduled for Oct. 13

A Mass of the Anointing of the Sick will be held at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 328 Washington Ave., Dunkirk on Saturday, Oct. 13, at 11 a.m. A light luncheon will be served immediately following in the Parish Hall, located in the Northern Chautauqua Catholic School building at 336 Washington Ave.

Priest Appreciation Dinner planned for Oct. 21

The twentieth annual Priest Appreciation Dinner will be held Sunday, Oct. 21 at St. Anthony’s Parish Hall, Cushing Street, Fredonia. The event is sponsored by Cardinal Mindzenty Assembly 727 and Councils Dunkirk 929, Fredonia 7921, Gowanda 15113 and Silver Creek 5356. The cost is $20 per person. Cocktails are at 4 p.m. with a free bar.
