BUFFALO — The 28th Annual The Harvest Is Plentiful Concert will take place at SS Columba/Brigid Parish 75 Hickory St., Buffalo, on Sunday, Nov. 4 at 6 p.m. The concert is a joint effort SS Columba/Brigid Parish Gospel Choir under the direction of Lynda Martin and St. Joseph Parish from Fredonia Voice and Handbell Choirs under the direction of Lucy Hurley. They will perform jointly as well as individually.
The choirs will proceed into the concert with the arousing Gospel song “I Will Sing Unto the Lord (Sing Praises to Thee)” by Dr. Judith Christie McAllister. Children from SS Columba/Brigid will enhance this entrance with their own festive flare. It will continue with the prayerful “O Give Thanks Unto the Lord” by Bishop G.E. Patterson and “Let The Children Come to Me” by W. Clifford Petty. Picking up the pace with a bright calypso feel of “Open Wide the Doors” by John Angotti and Larry Dorsch, the audience will hear the solos of Virginia Miller, Pete Howard, and Dominique Martello.
The concert continues with the lively “Walk In The Land” based on Ps 116 by Joe Mattingly. Soloists are Chris Ann Mosier and Jason Lee. This song also incorporates additional instrumentation including trumpet, clarinet, and saxophone. It’s a fun, feel-good song. “Come Follow Me” by Don and Nancy Besig is a beautiful flowing song that will be made even more beautiful with flute and cello helping to accompany this piece. Another beautiful rendition is found in “His Eye Is On the Sparrow” by Charles H Gabriel and arranged by Douglas E. Wagner. It will be performed by St. Joseph Parish Handbell Choir.
The Harvest Is Plentiful Concert has been known to incorporate a “Plentiful” amount of different styles of music as, “I Give You Praise” by Chicago Mass Choir, will be done in a Contemporary Worship Style. “Everyone Clap Your Hands” by Joshua’s Troup, which is a rejoicing song of celebration with movement, dance and, clapping. Once again the enthusiasm and energy of SS Columba/Brigid children will enhance this song’s performance. The melodious voices of Tyler Foreman and Tim Jackson will be heard on “Hallelujah Is the Highest Praise” a touch of Gospel by Carlton Pearson.
“Go Out and Tell the Good News” by Laura and David Ash has led way to African drumming and other African percussive instruments. David Scholand will be the soloist, as both choirs come back together again for the final portion of the concert. Audience participation is a must on this song. They will also perform “Bridge Over Troubled Water” by Paul Simon and arranged by Kirby Shaw, as a small tribute to the late Aretha Franklin who began her musical career in Church. The very beautiful, prayerful and timely Gospel Ballad “Unity” based on Ps 133:1 by Glorraine Moone and arranged by Rev. Freddie Washington will help round out this final portion of the concert.
As always, the last song of the evening as tradition has had it is, “Rejoice” by Kenneth W. Louis. Soloists will include SS Columba/Brigid Choir’s Director, Lynda Martin, and St. Joseph Choir’s Director, Lucy Hurley. The St. Joseph Handbell Choir will also join in with a festive handbell arrangement by Lucy Hurley. The audience will hear and see this and more!
