Unitarian Universalist Congregation reaches milestone in giving

Submitted Photo UUCNC President David Salley and UUCNC Consulting Minister Reverend George Buchanan present a check totaling $2,124 to CCRM Executive Director Kathleen Peterson and Director of Programs Bridget Majka. The donated money was collected through the congregation’s Share the Plate Program.

Since 2009, The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Northern Chautauqua has held a “Share the Plate” Sunday once a month, as a way to demonstrate their commitment to nonprofit organizations whose actions are consistent with their principles and living traditions. 100 percent of the non-pledge money received on each Share the Plate Sunday is given to the chosen agency.

On Sunday, Nov. 11, the recipient, Chautauqua County Rural Ministry received $2,124. This brings the total of giving through this program to just over $20,000 over the past 9 years.

Since 2009, the congregation has shared the plate with numerous organizations, including The American Red Cross, The Boys and Girls Club of Northern Chautauqua County, Hospice of Chautauqua County, Dunkirk-Fredonia Meals on Wheels, Journey’s End Refugee Services, Inc, Gay and Lesbian Youth Services of Western NY and the Silver Creek Food Pantry.
