Eat your fill of pancakes for Shrove Tuesday

On Tuesday evening, March 5, from 5 to 7 p.m., the men of Trinity Episcopal Church will take over the Garland Hall kitchen and cook up and serve some of the best pancakes and sausage, all for your dining pleasure. You can have as much as you like. In hosting this meal, the men are following a long tradition of British Christians dating back to the 16th century. Historically there are many societies who choose to eat pancakes and other foods made with butter, eggs and fat, as these ingredients would not be used during the Lenten season which begins the next day – Ash Wednesday. Garland Hall is located at the back of Trinity Episcopal Church, which is found at 11 Day St., Fredonia.

Come hungry at 5 p.m. or anytime until 7 p.m. and know that you will leave feeling pleasantly full. The cost for this “all you can eat” supper is $8 for adults and $5 for children over the age of 5. (Children under 5 eat for free). We look forward to serving everyone. Please join us for this annual dinner and bring a friend or two.

There are a number of Lenten Series opportunities at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. On Sundays at 10 a.m., the Seven Deadly Sins will be discussed. St. John the Baptist (Episcopal) Church news

The start of Lent will be observed at St. John the Baptist (Episcopal) Church with three services on Ash Wednesday, March 6. Imposition of ashes with Holy Communion will be offered at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.

From 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., “Ashes to Go” will be available at the entrance of the church. This will consist of a short prayer and imposition of ashes on an individual basis. This will accommodate those who do not have the time to fit a full service into their busy schedule. The season of Lent, which is 40 days before Easter, represents the 30 days Jesus fasted in the wilderness to prepare himself for his ministry.

Today, these 40 days represent the 40 days in which Christians can prepare themselves spiritually, as we look forward to the Resurrection of Jesus at Easter. It is a time to train ourselves to imitate and follow Christ more closely.

On Fridays during Lent, Stations of the Cross will be observed at 6 p.m.

St. John’s is located on the corner of W. Fourth and Lark streets in Dunkirk. All are invited.
