Area residents invited to help fight hunger

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization’s study “The State of Food Insecurity in the World 2019”, 1 in 9 people, more than 820 million people in the world, do not have enough to eat. Fredonia First United Methodist Church is helping to change that. The church is hosting a Rise Against Hunger meal packaging event on Sept. 22 at 10 a.m. in their Community Room. Volunteers are needed for a number of things: Set up and takedown of packaging stations and equipment, filling bins with raw ingredients, scooping ingredients into meal bags, weighing and sealing the bags, boxing and stacking them on pallets, and loading the pallets and equipment onto the truck.

The meals are then distributed by Rise Against Hunger through feeding programs operated by partner organizations in developing countries that promote education, encourage children to attend school, improve students’ health and nutrition, address gender inequalities, stimulate economic growth, fight child labor, and are part of the movement to address global issues as well as domestic and international crisis response during natural disasters and other events that cause food shortages.

All are invited to come help the day of the event and/or help financially. For more details or to register to help at the event, call 679-1513 or send an email to ffumc@fredoniafirst.org

Donations can also be given online at www.fredoniafirst.org/donate.
