Community Helping Hands seeks volunteers

JAMESTOWN — Community Helping Hands is a local, faith based organization established in 2001 to fulfill the mission of helping those who may need immediate assistance in the form of clothing and/or household goods and furniture. In order to continue providing that service to the community, CHH operates three salesrooms full of clothing, furniture, home furnishings and specialty items. These items are donated by the community to CHH and then sold to anyone who is looking for a bargain.

Community Helping Hands continues to sell clothing, furniture, home goods and specialty items out of the Depot, Showcase, and Pickers’ Place at the Gateway Center, 31 Water St. in Jamestown. Hours of operation are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. The three salesrooms are also open the first Saturday of each month from 10 a.m to 2 p.m.

The organization is sustained by the sales of these items, as well as special holiday sales. Halloween items will be offered starting Oct. 3. The “Halloween House” will have decorations, costumes, and everything spooky. Picker’s Place is having a huge sale right now with items 10% to 75% off and negotiating better prices is encouraged. CHH is offering these discounts to clear the way for the Christmas Market, which will begin on Oct. 25. This year, the Christmas items will fill two huge rooms and there is everything from small ornaments to full Christmas trees.

Additionally, Community Helping Hands has an annual fund-raiser called the Emporium. This is a one-day event where vendors sell their crafts and there are fun activities for the kids, a basket raffle and food sales. The Christmas Market will be open. This year, the Emporium will be on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Supporting the Emporium helps vendors earn money and helps CHH raise money to support their mission of helping others.

In order to accomplish all the work necessary to fill the sales rooms and operate the holiday sales, Community Helping Hands relies on volunteers to come in and help sort, price, and set up the items for sale. Currently, CCH is in need of help to ensure the Christmas Market is ready on time. Those who love Christmas things are asked to consider spending a few hours helping to prepare for this Christmas Market. If an individual or a small group would like to volunteer some time at CHH, contact the CHH office at 487-1488. Volunteers will be helping a wonderful organization fulfill their mission of helping others. This is also the number to contact with questions about any of the Community Helping Hands activities.
