Feeding Fredonia challenge: the need is real

Submitted Photo The shelves at the Fredonia Food Pantry are bare.

From Oct. 7-18, Fredonia Presbyterian Church is holding the sixth annual Feeding Fredonia Challenge. The need for this annual community wide food collection is clear. The Fredonia Food pantry shelves at the Rural Ministry are, for all intents and purposes, empty.

During this two-week period, participating area businesses will have a bag available for donations of food from any visitors and customers for the Fredonia Food Pantry. The Fredonia Central School and SUNY Fredonia are also participating in this food collection effort. The items needed are: beans, canned fruits, canned meats, canned vegetables, cereals, coffee, dry milk, peanut butter, rice, soups, pastas, canned spaghetti sauce, jelly (but all donations will be accepted!)

The Fredonia Food Pantry is held at the Fredonia Presbyterian Church (219 Central Avenue) on the third Saturday of every month from 10 a.m. until noon. The food for the pantry is stored at the Rural Ministry of Northern Chautauqua County. It is hoped that the whole community will respond to the challenge by making a contribution at one of the participating area businesses.
