The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Northern Chautauqua welcomes members Barbara and Valeria Colt as the speakers on Sunday, Oct. 27. Their talk, “Same Sex Marriage in the Military: Our Experiences, Losses, and Gains,” will share their experience as a married same sex couple in the military.

St. John’s Episcopal Church special celebration

The Rt. Rev. Sean Rowe will be the celebrant at a Celebration of the Eucharist at St. John’s the Baptist Episcopal Church on All Souls’ Day, Saturday, Nov. 2 at 4 p.m.

All Souls’ Day is a time the Episcopal Church sets aside time to remember the souls of the departed. On this special occasion, the dedicated Christian souls who are now continuing the work of the Lord will be honored. Bishop Rowe is presently serving as Bishop of Northwestern Pennsylvania and the Diocese of Western New York. When the Rev. R. William Franklin, previous Bishop of Western New York, retired, the two dioceses explored the possibility of sharing one bishop due to their geographical location and the similarity of culture. This is not a merger of the two dioceses, but the sharing of one bishop and two diocesan staff. The two dioceses have taken on this unified relationship, which is a relatively new concept, on a five-year trial plan.

St. John’s welcomes all to attend and meet and greet Bishop Rowe, one of the innovators of this sharing of one bishop between two dioceses.

A reception will be held following the service. St. John’s is located on the corner of West Fourth and Lark streets in Dunkirk.
