Thankful giving

Our national day of Thanksgiving is less than a week away. Remember to take time to give thanks to God for all His provision; not only on one day but daily. As He is always providing everything we have so we have reason to continually give Him thanks.

There are many ways to give God thanks. It is more than just saying “thank you” or just taking time to go to church that day. There is nothing wrong with those things, but let’s think that a time of giving thanks is done daily. To truly give thanks includes action. As God gives to us all that we have, so He also enables us to use all that He gives. All those things with which He blesses us can be used to be a blessing for others.

Don’t just think of possessions. God gives you time. He has given you one or more talents. Then you can look at all the things in your life that you enjoy and have and use. Do not forget the greatest blessing that God has given to you and yours. He has given His one and only Son to be the savior of all. He gave His life to reconcile you and all people with God. He paid for your sins so that all are forgiven. He then rose from the dead declaring victory over sin, death and the devil.

As Jesus used His life to serve all people, so that the blessings He provides in our lives are resources that can be used to help others. All that He has done is the motivation that enable those who trust in His saving work to use them not just for personal gratification, but to provide for the needs of others.

As you give thanks on this holiday and every day of your life remember that God has blessed you to be a blessing. There in lies the real means to give full thanks to God. Use those things with which He has blessed you to be a blessing to others.
