United Way, Salvation Army giving away coats
The United Way of Northern Chautauqua County and The Salvation Army have partnered on the 2019 Campaign for Warmth.
The drive has been very successful, with more than 300 coats donated, laundered, and now available to local residents who are in need of a warm winter jacket. Monday will be the first large distribution of those coats collected, and it will occur during the Salvation Army’s Christmas program sign ups. Families that are signing up for the Christmas program need to meet certain criteria but those only in need of a coat are encouraged to visit the Salvation Army on Central Avenue and request one.
The project is sponsored by East Main Laundry, who has donated use of washers and dryers as well as laundered many coats. The Resource Center has had volunteers on hand weekly assisting with laundering, and moving coats. Collections have been done at all Community Bank locations in the area, and at Nestle Purina. Collections will continue through the end of November, at Community Bank and the United Way office.
If individuals in need are not able to visit the Salvation Army on Monday or Tuesday they are encouraged to speak with other not for profits they may be working with, or to call the United Way office.
