Start off your Lenten Season with a Shrove Tuesday Pancake Dinner

WESTFIELD — A moment of over-indulgence and a period of abstinence await you. That is, Shrove Tuesday marks the end and Ash Wednesday the beginning of probably the churches’ most sacred time. It will mark the 40 days of Lent and gives participants an opportunity to exercise their spirituality through Holy Week and conclude with a celebration on Easter.

Shrove Tuesday is also known as Fat Tuesday or Mardi Gras, this marks the last day to live it up before we enter into a period of fasting, mindfulness, self-discovery, and penitence; a journey of discovery. Followers will reflect on who Christ was, His words, and what His walk on earth means for us today.

The dispensation and receiving of Ashes on Ash Wednesday is an outward display of an inward experience that reminds us “we are dust and to dust we will return.” It’s a practice that has been handed down through the centuries as a form of preparation, remembrance, and strengthening.

Join us on Tuesday, Feb. 25 at 5:30 p.m. for an enjoyable Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper. Meal is a free offering and is open to the public. A traditional pancake race will follow.

On the following day, join us again on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 7 a.m. or 7 p.m. for the Dispensation of Ashes Service, Rev. Elizabeth Hadaway presiding. Rite of Reconciliation (Confession) and Parish Hall will be available all day. We hope you will join us and experience this journey for yourself, just as the many before you have. 12 Elm St., Westfield, 326-2064, www, and Facebook.
