Silver Creek Seniors

The March 19 meeting was called to order with expectations of the arrival of spring. President Ed Newman warmly welcomed new members Don and Phyllis Burghardt and guest Cindy Anger, daughter of Harry and Joan Suski. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited and “God Bless America” was sung with sincerity. Chaplain Dorothy Miniri invoked blessings and thanks for the nourishing food, good health and for all hopes and dreams to be fulfilled by the Lord. The table held a score of food galore, with salads and more and desserts for an encore. Once again it was divine to dine thanks to fine volunteers.

President Newman announced the Silver Creek High School’s coming production of “Little Shop of Horrors,” on Friday, March 22 at 7 p.m.; Saturday, March 23 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, March 24 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $5 for students/senior citizens and $8 for general admission. He also announced the availability of the Silver Creek Central School Fitness Center. For more information, call Jody Ward at 934-2603, ext. 1116.

The Comedy Corner starred Pauline Flitt, who queried the cutest questions with the cleverest answers, which we failed at. We laughed, though we did not pass Pauline’s test of funniness. Memory songs today leave the chill of winter behind and bring the warmth of kinder days ahead. “It’s a Lovely Day Today,” with many more in store. Don’t forget – “When the Red Red Robin Comes Bob Bob Bobbin’ Along,” be sure to make a wish.

50/50 winners were Mary Ann Seibert, Enabell Mirando and Jen Zlotnick. Door prizes were won by Joan Suski, Thelma Hilliker and Jean McDaneld. Jan Snyder called mind-sharpening bingo and the winners were Ed Newman, Ernie Hilliker, Marilyn Flint (twice), Ellyn Sutehall, Zlotnick, McDaneld, Lorrie Newman and Thelma Hilliker.

At the next 1 p.m. meeting on March 26 we will celebrate March and April birthdays with cake and ice cream.

United Senior Citizens

The United Senior Citizens held its March meeting at the Fredonia Beaver Club with member Genevieve Ludemann, the Attendance Taker, receiving members. Those in attendance enjoyed meatloaf, smashed red-skinned potatoes, vegetable medley, tossed salad, roll and butter and apple crisp for dessert. Grace was given by Wendy Black, while the “Pledge of Allegiance” and “God Bless America” were led by member Evonne Hennebery. Birthdays were announced: Helen Barone, Joe Greco Jr., Rosemary Mancuso, Nancy Niebel, Don Reinhoudt, John Wiedenhoffer, Lynda Smith and Josephine Wierczynski. The bingo committee consisted of Rosemary Mancuso and Phyllis Laurito. Bingo winners for the day were Kathy Kamery, Wierczynski, Dolores Borrello, Laurito, Rose Cerrie, Linda Riley and Delores Campbell. Joe Greco Jr. gave attendees the opportunity to participate in the 50/50 raffle with Pat Ebert and Wierczynski being the winners. A joke was shared by Hennebery, with a few added Irish jokes shared by Mancuso. Members were reminded that the nomination of officers will soon be taking place and are encouraged to participate as growth is anticipated. The lunch menu for the April 8 meeting will be ham, sweet potatoes, tossed salad, zucchini and lemon meringue pie for dessert. The $10 check per lunch is to be made out to United Senior Citizens and sent to Evonne Hennebery, PO Box 706, Dunkirk, New York 14048 by April 1 – No Foolin! United Senior Citizens warmly invite those senior citizens in the community to join the organization to greet, meet and eat the second Monday of the month excluding January and February. Yearly dues are $5 and can be sent to Hennebery (as well as the lunch reservation). We are a friendly group and are looking forward to having you come and enjoy a scrumptious catered lunch for $10 at the Fredonia Beaver Club once a month. Friendly reminding – it’s always the second Monday of the month. Bring a friend or come alone and you’ll meet new friends! We’ll see you there!
