Sheridan Happy Seniors

The June monthly meeting was held on Friday, June 14. There were 20 members in attendance. The meeting started out with the singing of the “Happy Seniors” song. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited followed by the singing of “God Bless America.” Arlene Miller then said the Blessing.

The following members were welcomed back: Betty Kuzora, Rose Cerrie, Lorrie and Ed Newman. The guest and new member was Pauline Flitt, who will be helping out with future activities. Another new member was Ruth Sheeler, who read an article about the things that have changed during the years. Thanks to Angie Logan for bringing in the article and also for giving the treasurer’s report. Congratulations to Shirley Sikorski for winning the Riles & Woolley drawing. “Happy Birthday” to Max Church, who was unable to make the meeting.

Sandwiches for the luncheon were made by Judy Hahn and Marilyn Flint. There were also pickles, chips, cookies and refreshments. The club will furnish pizza from Ellie’s Deli for the meeting in July.

Everyone enjoyed playing more bingo games than usual. Bingo winners were Robert Burt, Sikorski, Sheeler, Flitt, Kuzora, Cerrie, Arlene Lawrence, Enabell Mirando and Hahn. Bingo was called by Eleanor Lemiszko.

After bingo the “Happy Seniors” song was sung ending a “happy” meeting.

Hope to see everyone at the next monthly meeting on Friday, July 12 at noon. All seniors 55 or older are invited to attend. Meetings are held at the Silver Creek Seniors Center at noon.

Silver Creek Seniors

The June 18 meeting was called to order on a perfect day — “and what is so rare as a day in June?” The Pledge of Allegiance was recited and “God Bless America” was sung with respect. Chaplain Dorothy Miniri invoked thanks for blessings received, food prepared and for gifts of health and healing.

Call them frankfurters, hot dogs or wieners: with all the garnishes, they were a hit with the taste buds. Side dishes of baked beans, baked ziti, coleslaw, potato salad and sauerkraut made the eats complete. Add to that desserts of Boston cream cake, lemon brownies, chocolate chip, chocolate drops and vanilla cookies and you’ll say “mmm good.” Thank you, volunteers!

Studies show that the thought processes involved in telling a joke force us to use our entire brain, which makes it more agile. Pauline Flitt tested our agility with more brain teasers. For example, what intelligent dog would Dracula choose for a pet? A Bloodhound, of course!

At the Senior Center, we have proclaimed this week as “Happy Week.” On Sunday, we honored Father’s Day; then, we officially welcome the first day of summer today. This shows that “Happy Days are here again” as we start the summer season on a musical journey with a “Ferry Boat Serenade.” P.S. At our Senior Club, every Tuesday is the start of a happy week.

Fifty-fifty winners were Jan Snyder, Sally Shevlin and Flitt. Door prizes were won by Joan Suski, Mary Wade and Lorraine Bailey. President Ed Newman called mind-sharpening bingo and the winners were Flitt, Shevlin, Lorrie Newman (twice), Eleanor Lemiszko, Shirley Siborski and Bailey.

At the next 1 p.m. meeting on Tuesday, June 25, strawberry shortcake will be served thanks to volunteer participation and preparation.
