United Seniors
The United Seniors, met at The Beaver Club, in September There were 26 members present. All members and guests were welcomed. Evonne Hennebery led the Pledge of Allegiance and “God Bless America” was sung. Wendy Black gave the blessing. Birthdays for the month of were Jim Andin, Mary Edwards, Evonne Hennebery, Kathy Kamery and Doris La Spada. We all cheerfully sang “Happy Birthday.” We had a wonderful meal catered by “Freds” – which consisted of roast beef, vegetable medley, mashed potatoes with a side of gravy, tossed salad with homemade dressing and cheesecake.
Hennebery read the treasurer’s report, and thanked everyone for coming. She also announced that members should be inviting more people to join.
The next meeting will be Oct. 14. The menu for October will be: meatloaf, mashed potatoes, peas and carrots, tossed salad/ homemade dressings, and apple crisp for dessert.
Remember to send all monies to Evonne Hennebery, P.O Box 706, Dunkirk N. Y. 14048. The cost is $10 per luncheon.
The callers were thanked: Pat Ebert, Josie Wierczynski, Nancy Niebel, Linda Riley. Nancy Jankowski-Kubera sold 50/50 tickets. The winners were Tina Ritchammer, Hennebery and Fred Summerton.
Many members played bingo, provided by Rosemary Mancuso, Phyllis Laurito and Lucy Saeli. Hennebery gave a presentation of her adventure in Iceland She enjoyed so many wonderful activities. She gave a detailed description of all the tours. She said in Iceland animals roamed everywhere, she experienced Hot Springs, went to lava caves, colorful sunken volcanoes, there was an Island of Puffin birds and so much breathtaking scenery. She was anticipating a great view of The Northern Lights, but, it wasn’t as clear as they had hoped. She had a personal assistant to guide her to the most amazing tours, and that they were advised not to go on The Whale Sighting adventure, unless you were a seasoned sailor, that you would probably become seasick very quickly because of the rough waters. There were beautiful waterfalls, and geysers. The ice caves were dug out every season, and of course you had to wear layers of waterproof winter clothing. She had so many adventures, and we can’t relay how wonderful it must have been. She will bring photos and post cards for everyone to pass around at the next meeting. Everyone will be looking forward to sharing those.

Silver Creek Seniors
The September meeting opened on the day of recalling our country’s past. President Ed Newman warmly welcomed back Carol Prowse, who was greeted with lively applause. The Pledge of America was recited and “God Bless America” was sung with emotion. Pauline Flitt offered the blessing, giving thanks for the soups prepared, the love that’s shared and for those that touch our lives with their guidance and their strength. The plentiful array of savory soups and sweets sated every taste bud.
The comedy corner rejuvenated everyone with humor, as the Don and Pauline team featured autumnal questions and answers such as: What did one autumn leaf say to another? I’m falling for you. Why are trees very forgiving? Because in the fall, they “Let it go” and in the spring, they “Turn over a new leaf.”
As reported in the OBSERVER this past week’s end, Sept. 17 is Constitution Day. It was on that day that the delegates to the Constitutional Convention signed the document in 1787. The Constitution is a set of basic laws, organizing, granting and limiting the powers of our government. We celebrate this day as we repeat and recite from memory the words of the Preamble, and proudly sing those patriotic songs – “This Is My Country,” and “America the Beautiful.” May God bless us, all 300 million or so of us!
50/50 winners were Judy Hahn (twice) and Jean McDaneld. Door prizes were won by Joan Suski, Thelma Hilliker, Lorraine Bailey and Phyllis Burghardt. Jan Snyder called mind-sharpening bingo and the winners were Ruth Sheeler (twice), Flitt (thrice), Ellyn Sutehall, Claudia Markham, Phyllis Burkhardt (twice), Carm Tampio and Ernie Hilliker.
At the next 1 p.m. meeting on Sept. 24, sandwiches will be served, thanks to volunteers. Bring a side dish if you wish.
Sheridan Happy Seniors
The Sheridan Happy Seniors met on Sept. 13. It was another HAPPY meeting! The club is growing every month. New members for the month of September were Ernie and Thelma Hilliker.
President Eleanor Lemiszko started the activities with the Pledge of Allegiance followed by singing “God Bless America.” Pauline Flitt then gave the blessing. The “Happy Seniors Song” was sung, starting the monthly meeting.
The volunteers who brought cake and ice cream were: Enabell Mirando, Dee Odgen, Debbie Piglowski, Burdella Warner, Helen Burt and Bob Burt. “Happy Birthday” was sung to Arlene Lawrence, whose birthday was on Sept. 14.
In the month of September, the Sheridan Seniors planted a bush at the Silver Creek Seniors Center to the already great-looking landscaping. Thanks to all the volunteers who helped with this project.
The Riles & Woolley drawing winner was Betty Kuzora. Door prizes were won by Ellyn Sutehall, Jan Polisoto and Piglowski.
Flitt called bingo and the winners were: Thelma Hilliker, Ernie Hilliker, Rose Cerrie, Angie Logan, Polisoto, Odgen, Piglowski and Warner.
Next month’s meeting will be on Oct. 11 at noon. The luncheon will be pot luck. Members are welcome to bring in a pot luck if able to do.
Once again, the “Happy Seniors Song” ended the day.
The club is growing! If you want to be a member, stop by the second Friday of each month at noon. You’re welcome to come and guaranteed to have a great time!
