Silver Creek Seniors

The Oct. 1 meeting opened on a day of record-breaking temperatures. President Ed Newman warmly welcomed back Shirley Sikorski. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited and “God Bless America” was sung with tenderness. Pauline Flitt said grace, giving thanks for this beautiful day, for the food we were about to share, beseeching blessings upon the officers to be installed and upon the travelers soon to be heading south. Thanks to the Sunset Bay restaurant, our banquet luncheon, offering Italian-style baked chicken, cheesy scalloped potatoes and fresh green beans was a pleasing meal fitting the occasion. Side orders of a cream cheese log with crackers, a fruit bowl and fluffy gelatin were served for dessert, thanks to volunteers.

The installation ceremony took place on this day with the Honorable Judge Walter Klyczek presiding. The officers that are to serve for the year 2020 made a solemn declaration, calling God to witness, to administer the duties of their position of trust with confidence, integrity and loyalty to the members of the club. Officers installed included President Ed Newman, Vice President Joan Suski, Secretary Lorraine Bailey, Corresponding Secretary Eleanor Lemiszko, Treasurer Lorrie Newman, Petty Cash Coordinator Mary Ann Seibert and Maintenance committee members Bob Sutehall, Harry Suski and Earl Sheeler.

Mary Wode and Jen Zlotnik joined Don Burghardt in the Comedy Corner with stories to prove that humor is cumulative – the more we use our sense of humor, the more things seem funny to us, according to therapists. Jen’s story of neighborly love proved that goodness abounds in our neighborhood.

“How Do I Love Thee? Let Me Count the Ways. I love thee to the depth and the breadth and height my soul can reach.” Wow! Elizabeth Barrett Browning really knew how to calculate love. Our olden golden memory songs asks this question, “How Much Do I Love You?” In our neighborhood, we tend to measure love a little differently – by the pint, the quart, the gallon or even a “Bushel and a Peck.” Never forget – “All You Need is Love.”

50/50 winners were Claudia Markham, Sally Shevlin and Judy Hahn. Door prizes were won by Eleanor Lemiszko, Betty Moores, Bob Sutehall and Thelma Hilliker. President Newman called mind-sharpening bingo and the winners were Lorrie Newman, Lemiszko, Joan Suski, Zlotnik, Carol Prowse, Sikorski, Marilyn Flint and Burghardt.

At the next Oct. 8 meeting at 1 p.m. at the clubhouse, pizza will be served.
