Brocton Portland Seniors

Brocton Portland Seniors met at the Brocton Legion on Tuesday, Oct. 29. Tom DeJoe opened the meeting for 46 members and three guests. Patricia Zanghi led the Pledge of Allegiance and Rev. Clara Wilder gave a prayer of thanks. Pat and George Cook were welcomed along with new member Linda Burton and guest Elaine Wood. The awesome catered luncheon was chicken, scalloped cheese potatoes, tossed salad, beef on weck and hot apple cobbler topped with ice cream. Committee Chairman Linda Riley, Kate Cranston, Wendy Black, Carm Johnson and Tom DeJoe had the Halloween-decorated tables set with flowers and candle centerpieces that were raffled off to happy winners. Pat and George Cook entertained with many favorite country songs, especially Patsy Cline. Announcements included a chicken and biscuit dinner Wednesday at Portland Congregational Church; Tri Church in Brocton Harvest Dinner is Nov. 9, 4 to 7 p.m.; Nov. 13 St Dominic’s soup/sandwich benefit in Westfield, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Motions were made regarding the yearly West Portland Food Pantry donation and also to their building fund necessary to expand their storage. Both passed unanimously. OFA forms for the Eating Out ticket program were shared, with more available at Ahira Hall Library. November election Nomination Committee volunteers were Linda Riley, Robin Carr, Jean Jaquith, Rita Bennett and Olive Becker; officers to be installed in December for 2020. Birthday winners were Fran Smith, Bev Burton, Edi Seekings, Marion Delcamp and Clara Wilder. A card of congratulations for their 38 year anniversary was signed for Bob and Margaret Jagoda. Margaret is back home recovering and doing well. Prizes for Halloween costumes were winners all. Three lady bugs, two Indians, USA cowgirl, Buffalo Bill Kelly, witches, pumpkins, purple lady, and Mrs. Christmas with bells on! We got pictures! Door prizes were won by Rita Stonefoot and Fran Smith. Raffle winners where Pete Spinuzza, Beulah Williams, Floyd Carpenter and Marie Emke. The next meeting is Nov. 26. A catered luncheon will be by committee members, Bev Burton, Kate Cranston, Linda Riley and Tom DeJoe, who makes great coffee! Members are to bring their personal table service.

Dunkirk Senior Center

Independent Health will be available at the Dunkirk Senior Center from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursdays from through Dec. 5 (for open enrollment). No appointment is necessary.

Travel updates: November and December customer appreciation trips are completely sold out with maximum capacity waiting lists.

You must have an active membership to participate in programs unless noted otherwise. Renewal memberships or new memberships for 2020 will be accepted beginning Dec. 2.

The office, located at 45 Cliffstar Court, is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday all day from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Center’s phone number is 366-7530.

Silver Creek Seniors

The Nov. 12 meeting was canceled due to the early arrival of wintry weather. At the next 1 p.m. meeting on Nov. 19, pizza will be served. Stay warm and stay safe.

Grape Belt Seniors

Aerobics and Weights with Catherine on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 9 a.m.

All trips, extended as well as day trips, are open to the public; members and non-members. Fliers for upcoming trips for 2019 are available at the Center on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 to 10:30 a.m.

Dec. 10: The Lettermen Hits and Holiday Show. Seneca Niagara. $78 per person for show, $20 free slot play, and buffet lunch. Pay by Nov. 4.

Flyers are available for Holland MI Tulip Festival, May 4-7, 2020; Treasures of Quebec by rail, July 27-31, 2020 and for Pacific Northwest, Sept. 8-15, 2020.

Activities for the week of Nov. 17 to 23

Sunday, Nov. 17: Pickle Ball – 6 pm L.K. Painter Center gym.

Monday, Nov. 18: Exercises w/Pat – 10am LKP Center gym.

Tuesday, Nov. 19: Active Senior Aerobics w/ Kim at 9 a.m., Painter Center gym, small fee; Soup and Sandwich Lunch at noon, Painter Center Yellow Room. Seminar by the Erie County Clerks Office on new driver’s license regulations.

Wednesday, Nov. 20: Exercises w/ Pat at 10 a.m., Painter Center gym; Quilting with Florence at 10:30 a.m., Collins Library Community Room; Games & Crafts w/ Pat at 1 p.m., Painter Center Rose Room; Senior Bowling at 1 p.m., K&L Lanes in Gowanda, small fee.

Friday, Nov. 22: Exercises w/Pat at 10 a.m., LKP Center gym.

** Join the Collins 50 Plus Seniors on Friday, Dec. 20 for the “Holiday Pops Show” at Kleinhans Music Hall. We start the day with coffee and doughnuts, enjoy the wonderful pops show, then a delicious lunch at Pearl Street Grill. Travel by coach bus. Package price of $110. ** The next AARP Defensive Driving Class will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 26 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the L.K. Painter Community Center in Collins. To sign up, call 532-2006 ext.21 and leave a message with your name, phone number, and if you would like to have the lunch. The fee for the class is $20 for AARP members / $25 for non-members. The fee for the lunch is $3.
