Silver Creek Seniors

The Nov. 19 meeting opened on a calm, cloudy day. President Ed Newman warmly welcomed new members Annette and Donald Hoeber of Irving. The President then called together in sorrow a moment of silent prayer for Dorothy Miniri, former club chaplain, who had passed away the evening before. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited and “God Bless America” was sung with thoughtfulness. Chaplain Pauline Flitt invoked the blessing, giving thanks for God’s gift of remembrance, for the pizza to be served and for the gift of supportive friends. Generous volunteers provided side orders of spinach squares, apple-filled cake, orange creamsicle salad and fluffy raspberry gelatin. Many thanks to all.

It’s been written that humor is a way to turn sadness outward instead of inward. The Comedy Corner performers made sure we did just that with their cute, corny quips and stories. Thank you Lorrie Newman, Chaplain Flitt and Don Burghardt. We know that Dorothy was laughing with us.

Remember when we were kids and greeted the first winter snowfall with enthusiasm? It meant getting out of doors, building a snowman, making angels in the snow, sledding and maybe even a day off from school! We don’t do that anymore. Instead, we stay warm indoors and “Let It Snow” while we “Dream” that we’re “Walking in a Winter Wonderland.” We seniors are grateful for the ability to remember the good of yesterday and today.

50/50 winners were Jan Snyder, Lorraine Bailey and Eleanor Lemiszko. Door prizes were won by Ellyn Sutehall, Ginny Chesbro and Thelma Hilliker. President Newman called mind-sharpening bingo and the winners were Flitt (thrice), Snyder, Lorrie Newman, Joan Suski (twice), Max Church and Burghardt.

At the next 1 p.m. Nov. 26 meeting, a catered turkey luncheon will be served as we celebrate Thanksgiving Day 2019 together. The meeting ended with the singing of “Young at Heart.”

Sinclairville Senior Citizens

The Sinclairville Senior Citizens luncheon for November was cancelled due to poor weather o there is no news report this month. The next meeting and luncheon will be on Tuesday, Dec. 10 at noon in the Sinclairville Firehall dining room.
