Silver Creek Seniors

The Dec. 10 meeting was called to order on a cloudy day combined with snow and rain. Upon entering the clubhouse, a cheerful yuletide display of a glittering Christmas tree, garlands of greenery, wall coverings and window sills portraying the Christmas season greeted every smiling clubhouse, thanks to the decorative flair of Joan Suski and Eleanor Lemiszko. President Ed Newman led the Pledge of Allegiance and “God Bless America was sung with appreciation. Chaplain Pauline Flitt invoked the blessing, giving thanks for the food prepared and reflecting on the special prayer of St. Francis. The table was adorned with nativity figurines of the Holy Family. The meal offered that zesty “south of the border” specialty chili con carne served with bread and butter, crackers, cornbread and shredded cheddar cheese for topping. Side dishes included potato salad, cherry salsa dip with cheesy crackers and a pepperoni and cheese platter. Dessert offerings included banana bread, sweet rolls, chocolate and almond covered pretzels and baby bell oranges. Many thanks to our volunteers.

The Comedy Corner didn’t fail to amuse and entertain with the holidays humorous endeavors, especially when one is preparing a turkey dinner while consuming wine on the side. We applaud the comedy quintet – Lorrie Newman, Flitt, Jan Snyder, Don Burghardt and Jen Zlotnick.

Today’s special raffle prize consisting of a four-piece place setting of holly berry Christmas dishes was won by Lemiszko. All proceeds go to the Silver Creek Food Pantry.

Christmas is the season of finding joy and exchanging merry wishes with one another, sharing a friendly smile or even a gentle chuckle and singing songs of praise that make known the true meaning of Christmas. As we go caroling indoors today, please join us in this heavenly celebration. “O Come All Ye Faithful” to Bethlehem where there is “Joy to the World” “Away in a Manger” on this beautiful “Silent Night.”

50/50 winners were Lemiszko, Harry Suski and Carl Mohart. Door prizes were won by Mary Ann Seibert, Carol Prowse and Max Church. Snyder called mind-sharpening bingo. Winners were Richard Carlson, Judy Hahn (twice), Phyllis Burghardt, Gene Chesbro (twice), Don Burghardt, Marge Church, Mohart and Prowse.

At the next 1 p.m. meeting on Dec. 17, we celebrate the season with our traditional Christmas party. Pot luck will be served thanks to our volunteers. If you wish to participate in the $5 gift exchange, bring a gift and you shall receive a gift.
