Silver Creek Seniors

The Dec 17 meeting opened on a day filled with the cheerful spirit of Christmas. President Ed Newman warmly welcomed back Barbara Schulenberg. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited and “God Bless America” was sung with tenderness. Chaplain Pauline Flitt invoked the blessing, giving thanks for the food prepared and the beautiful assurance of God’s love and peace. The festive table was filled with the holiday spirit of warmth and hospitality. There was an abundance of good food and good cheer for the gathering of friends at this most wonderful time of the year.

There is much joy in giving, especially at Christmas. Give, and it will be given to you. Our traditional exchanging of gifts gave everyone the fun of sharing of Christmas delight and surprise.

The Comedy Corner was filled with jovial and jolly winter jokes, followed by merry and mirthful memories of Santa and Mrs. Claus. This holiday cheer was brought to you by Don Burghardt, Flitt, Jen Zlotnick and Ed Newman.

Today, we regress to our childhood anticipations of Christmas Eve as we listen for the jingling sound of sleigh bells. This assures every child that “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” with his faithful reindeer led by “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.” And so, as Santa continues his flight into the night, “We wish you a Merry Christmas” and a happy, good life!

50/50 winners were President Newman, Phyllis Burghardt and Schulenberg. Door prizes were won by Harry Suski, Ginny Chesbro and Jan Snyder. President Newman called mind-sharpening bingo and the winners were Elaine Wojda, Carm Tamio, Flitt (twice), Ellyn Sutehall (thrice), Chesbro and Carol Prowse.

A reminder was made that due to the holiday eves falling on Tuesdays, the next meeting at the Silver Creek Senior Center will be held on Jan. 7 at 1 p.m. Pizza will be served.

Happy New Year to All!

Share & Care Seniors

The board recently met to close business for the current year and brainstorm ideas for the 2020 season and to plan events for the coming year. Looking forward to favorable weather, it was decided to zero in on April 2020 and see what is available for some fun times at our special meeting places. We seniors like to plan way ahead to make our parties special. The ingredients being good weather, good friends, good food, mixed with a lot of good fun. Merry Christmas to all seniors and our special senior friends and guests who enjoy our parties. Best wishes to all for a healthy and happy year ahead. Look for our future party postings and news in the senior news section of the Dunkirk OBSERVER.
