SILVER CREEK – On Veteran’s Day, St. Columban’s on the Lake Retirement Home honored their resident veterans with a ceremony led by Commander Dave Jagoda of American Legion Dunkirk Memorial Post 62. Jagoda recognized each veteran at the home, thanking them for their service on behalf of their fellow Americans.

“Many of our residents served in the Army, Air Force, Marines and the Navy during World War II and the Korean conflict,” said Sue McAvoy, activities director at St. Columban’s on the Lake. “Their generation made so many sacrifices for our country’s freedom. We make sure they receive the recognition they deserve.”

McAvoy would also like to thank Dave Kron of Tim Hortons for providing gifts for the home’s veterans.

The Veteran’s Day ceremony included comments by Jagoda and Post 62 officers, the Presentation of the Flag, and a certificate of recognition for each veteran from a representative of the County Executive’s office.
