Brocton Central School announces their 2019 Valedictorian, Salutatorian

Madeline Brogan — Brocton Central School Class of 2019 Valedictorian

The Brocton Central School Class of 2019 valedictorian is Madeline Brogan. She is the daughter of Dustin and Vicki Ackendorf of Brocton and John Brogan and Kate Tarkowski of Westfield. Madeline will graduate with her Advanced Regents Diploma with a cumulative average of 96.7.

Madeline has been a member of Junior and National Honor Society since seventh grade. She was sponsored by the Westfield-Mayville Rotary to attend the Rotary SLAPSHOT leadership program two years ago. This past summer she attended Empire Girls State sponsored by the John W. Dill American Legion Post 434 at SUNY Brockport. Madeline was captain of the Brocton-Westfield Varsity Girls soccer team for the 2018 season as well. As a freshman, junior, and senior, Madeline was president of her class and vice president of National Honor Society in her junior and senior year.

In addition to school and sports, Madeline works at the American Legion in Brocton and enjoys volunteering with the Rotary Interact Club. She has been a member of Brocton’s interact club for three straight years and vice president her senior year.

In her future, Madeline will attend the University at Buffalo to major in biomedical sciences and minor in pharmacology. Upon graduation, she hopes to attend medical school to become an anesthesiologist.

Dylan Murphy — Brocton Central School Class of 2019 Salutatorian

I am the son of Kyle Murphy of Brocton and Christine Murphy of Dunkirk and the brother of Caitlin Murphy. I have been attending Brocton Central School ever since Pre-K and I have enjoyed getting to know my teachers. One plus of Brocton being a smaller school is the close bonds you get to make with faculty and staff.

Not only have I attended countless music festivals such as NYSSMA Conference All-State and ACDA All-Eastern, but I have also bowled and played volleyball for two years, earning the Coach’s Award during my junior year on JV.

I have participated in multiple Drama Club productions including “The King and I,” “Bye Bye Birdie,” “9 to 5,” “Shrek,” “Band Geeks,” “Little Shop of Horrors,” “You’re a Good Man,” “Charlie Brown,” and the Talent Showcase, acting in lead roles for five of the aforementioned shows.

I am currently the President of Student Council, Interact Club, and National Honor Society while also acting as the editor for both the school newspaper, the Brocton Review, and the school yearbook, La Liberte. Other than the latter, I am also a part of the Envirothon team, chorus, and band.

After graduating, I will attend SUNY Fredonia and will major in Music Education. I hope to eventually get my PhD in Music Education and teach at an accredited, four-year college in New York State. Until then, I plan on being a substitute teacher in local schools until earning a permanent job in one.
