Miss Bonnie Burnett

One of the departments at Fredonia Central School District that has expanded and grown over the last ten years is the English as a New Language Department (otherwise known as ENL). A major reason for the development and outreach of this department is Miss Bonnie Burnett. Miss Burnett can often be seen in the community, assisting families with translation at appointments, community events, or navigation of school-related activities. The relationships she’s built with families new to our country and new to the English language is immeasurable. She ensures that their transition into Fredonia schools, and the community, is as seamless as possible, providing a reassuring smile, warm assistance, and genuine embracement.

Miss Burnett has been a teacher at Fredonia Central Schools for eight years. She has worked with the other teachers in the ENL department in creating ‘Culture Days’ with her students where they are able to showcase their heritage for the other students in the district. She also has assisted in the coordination of International Food Days where she works with parents to sell food native to their unique culture to raise money for a scholarship fund. Miss Burnett works with her department in hosting an annual Holiday Dinner for the ENL families, helped in the organization of a clothing drive, and is involved in a multitude of other activities. Miss Burnett is the Instructional Leader for the ENL Department and leads her team with kindness and a true sense of community. Beyond her role as a teacher, Miss Burnett has been the advisor for the Middle School Cheer Club, a Quest adult leader, as well as a mentor teacher. Miss Burnett is kind, thoughtful, sincere, and truly dedicated to the success of her students. She is truly an amazing educator. It is with great pride and honor that the Fredonia Central School District is choosing to showcase Miss Bonnie Burnett as an Outstanding Educator for our district. It is special people like Miss Burnett that make our school an amazing place for all students.
