Clean sweep near lake

Greystone Nature Preserve participated in the Great Lakes Beach Sweep for the 19th year. The Ocean Conservatory sponsors the event each year to create awareness of beaches and waterfronts everywhere. Participants gather litter from a section of beach or waterfront and report it via data cards to the American Littoral Society for tabulation. These records are next compiled for the entire world. Dumping and littering practices can then be pinpointed and investigated. From left are Diane Clark, director, and Bill Moran, manager of Greystone Nature Preserve, who display bags of litter collected on the Barcelona Marina Beach. Beannie, the GNP moscot, enjoyed the day immensely claiming an abandoned noodle from the bushes. Many cigarette filters and Tipperlo plastic butts were collected along with a great quality of plastic bits.
