Shakespeare Club holds birthday bash on Zoom

The Fredonia Shakespeare Club held its annual Shakespeare Birthday Celebration with a Zoom meeting on April 22.

Fourteen active members and two honorary members were present.

Club treasurer Nicki Schoenl welcomed participants and proposed a toast: “Today we celebrate the birthday of William Shakespeare, a brilliant man who created plays — 37 of them — and 154 sonnets that spoke of love, envy, lost summers, and gore. Now ’tis the season to thank this man, who was filled with hope and reason. Together let’s raise our glasses to wish a happy birthday to the Bard, and to toast another fantastic, albeit quite different, year of our Shakespeare Club.”

This was the Fredonia Shakespeare Club’s 136th birthday celebration for William Shakespeare.

Members enjoyed a Jeopardy-style game, moderated by outgoing president Mary Croxton, testing their knowledge of the year’s “Humor and Humorists” theme.

The Birthday Celebration is the final event of the 2020-2021 Club year.

Incoming officers: President, Dr. Leanna McMahon; Vice-President, Mrs. Barbara Albert; Secretary Mrs. Karin Seager Cockram; and Treasurer, Mrs. Judi Lutz Woods will coordinate the 2021-22 year.
