DAR chapter ready to mark Flag Day

The Benjamin Prescott Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution held their monthly meeting on June 3 at Ottaway Park in Westfield. There were 18 members present. Regent Brenda Johnson welcomed guests John and Susan Sipos.

It was decided that the dedication for the memorial garden for the 100th. Anniversary of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier will be held on Flag Day, Monday at 6 p.m. at the Fredonia Legion.

Johnson said that she sent members the link to register for the meetings at Continental Congress. The New York State luncheon will be held on Thursday, July 1 at noon.

There will also be a virtual party to celebrate the President General’s birthday and the 125th. birthday of the DAR Library.

Johnson stated that the New York State Conference will be held from September 23 – 26, 2021 in Syracuse, New York. It will be held at the Marriott Hotel in downtown Syracuse. The information for the conference can be found on the New York State website.

Johnson then mentioned that the chapter needs to send delegates to vote at the New York State Conference. Brenda Johnson and Bonnie Larkin will be the two voters and Roxanne Wood will serve as an alternate.

Johnson suggested the chapter take a field trip to the Teddy Roosevelt Inaugural House in Buffalo, New York. The House is open for tours and allows for fifty people at a time. The cost is $9 per person. The date for the field trip is Thursday, July 15, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. More information will be forthcoming.

Following the meeting, the chapter had the pleasure of listening to John Sipos speak on the history of the American Flag. Sipos explained the various items on his display and told several stories about the history of the American Flag. The speech was very interesting and informative.
