Unserviceable flags ceremony
The ceremony for disposal of unserviceable flags is outlined in Resolution 440, passed by the 19th National Convention of The American Legion in New York, Sept. 20-23, 1937. The ceremony has been an integral part of American Legion ritual since that date. Cassadaga Legion Memorial Post 1280 recently performed a ceremony for disposal of unserviceable flags. The ceremony inspects and gives respect to unserviceable U.S. flags by burning as a means of disposal. This year Cassadaga Legion Memorial Post 1280 family; Legion, Sons, Auxiliary, assisted by community members, Cassadaga Fire Department and Boy scout troop 219 conducted the ceremony.
