CLCS names top September students

Chautauqua Lake Central School has named its students of the month for September.

Senior Jalen Parkhurst is the son of Michaeline and Tony Rizzo of Mayville. He is enjoying his Psychology and Economics classes the most this year. An avid athlete, Jalen has competed on the Chautauqua Lake basketball and baseball teams since seventh grade and the soccer team since ninth grade. Jalen is also being inducted into the National Honor Society this year. Outside of school, Jalen enjoys playing sports, boating, lifting weights, and being with friends. Jalen plans on attending college next year and major in health sciences.

Emily Hawkins, a junior, is the daughter of Ryan and Julianne Hawkins of Ripley. This year she is enjoying her English and Physics classes the most. Emily has been active in school activities; she competed on the school softball team from seventh through ninth grade and the track team in tenth grade. This year, she is working on the yearbook and is also part of Student Administration. In her spare time, Emily enjoys spending time outside, painting, and reading. Emily’s future plans include attending college to major in nursing.

Sophomore Kaden Brushaber is the son of Joshua and Melanie Goulding of Fredonia. He is enjoying Chemistry and Digital Electronics the most this year. Kaden has played basketball and baseball since seventh grade and is looking forward to this year’s seasons. Outside of school, Kaden enjoys riding ATVs (quading), Snowboarding, Hiking, Biking and Hunting. After high school, Kaden plans on attending Rochester Institute of Technology to become an engineer.

Olivia Shearer, a freshman, is the daughter of Jen and Ken Shearer of Mayville. Her favorite classes this year are Forensics, Earth Science, and Web Design. Liv, as she likes to be called, has played tennis since fifth grade, and competes on the CLCS tennis team. During eighth grade, she also played on the basketball team and the track and field team while also being a member of ski club. Outside of school, Liv enjoys sketching, hiking, and camping. Olivia plans on completing high school, getting a doctorate degree, and becoming a Forensic Pathologist.

Eighth grader Meghan Pauley is the daughter of Amanda and Dan Tyler of Mayville, and Brian and Denise Pauley of Dayton, OH. She enjoys Living Environment and Algebra the most this year. In seventh grade, Meghan competed on the softball team, earning the team sportsmanship award, and was also the class Vice President; this year, she is her Class President. Outside of school, she enjoys cheerleading, ballet dancing, and drawing. Meghan’s future plans include attending college, getting a degree in biochemistry or microbiology, and then finding a job.

Josephine Dawson, a seventh grader who likes the nickname Josie, is the daughter of Michael

and Stephanie Dawson of Chautauqua. When asked what classes she is enjoying the most this year, Josie declared, “All of them!” This year, Josie competed on the school’s tennis team. Josie’s future plans include becoming Chief Supreme Court Justice someday.

Teacher Tara Reyda coordinates the secondary school Student of the Month recognition program with the help of a selection committee, which includes teachers Michelle Rowe and Stephanie Janicki.
