AHN Westfield hospital to host community walk

WESTFIELD — AHN Westfield Memorial Hospital will host a community walk to promote fitness and to celebrate the hospital’s 80th year of service to the community.

“Stepping Up for WMH,” a 5k (3.1 mile) walk, will kick off on Saturday, Sept. 10, from 9 a.m. to noon. The 10 a.m. walk will start and end at AHN Westfield Memorial Hospital. Complimentary healthy snacks will be provided to walkers and all guests.

The event will also include free health screenings, including blood pressure screenings, biometrics, and cards that utilize DNA to screen for potential cancer risk, and other tests. COVID-19 vaccines will also be available.

“For more than 80 years, AHN Westfield Memorial and its team of dedicated physicians, nurses, leaders, and board members have been stepping up for our community,” said Rodney Buchanan, event co-chair and WMH administrator. “This event is a wonderful opportunity for the community to learn more about health and wellness, to participate in any of the screening events we will be providing free of charge and to learn about the many services provided at our community hospital.”

Following the walk, participants and visitors take part in fundraisers to win prizes.

Tickets will be sold in advance and at the event for a giveaway that includes various prizes. Winners need not be present to win. Tickets will be sold at $10 each or three for $20 by contacting any hospital or Westfield Memorial Hospital Foundation board member, or by calling Patricia Gaughan DiPalma, WMH Foundation executive director, at 716-793-2338.

The prizes include a 55-inch LG Class 4K HD Smart TV, a Nintendo Switch, an Apple iPad 10.2, an Apple Watch, Apple Air pods and a gas grill and accessories, donated by Home Depot. Prizes are compliments of Fredonia Walmart and Home Depot.

There will also be gift baskets, donated by WMH Associates, local businesses, and individual donors, available to win. All proceeds will benefit the hospital through the WMH Foundation.

“This family-fun-filled morning – complete with a magician and balloon novelties — will be a wonderful way to celebrate AHN Westfield Memorial Hospital’s rich 80-year history,” DiPalma said. “At WMH, we are very proud to be a part of both organizations that share a dual purpose and remain committed in helping to provide quality healthcare for residents in our rural community now and well into the future.”

The event will also include a healthy cooking demonstration with recipes, presented by Teri Brazilly, AHN Westfield Memorial Hospital chef, and an opportunity for participants to view and take photos with an ambulance and a fire truck.

To sign up for the walk, or for more information on this community event, call DiPalma at 716-793-2338.

Starting at $3.50/week.
