Patricia Hayward reads the Proclamation to the Post 1280 Legionnaire.

CASSADAGA — The Cassadaga American Legion Auxiliary Unit 1280 held their regular monthly meeting March 14, with 10 members and one guest attending.

Eighth District Detachment Commander and Squadron 1280 member, Diman Smith, spoke to the group about the annual “Boots on the Ground” Walk-a-Thon to be held on Saturday, April 22. This is an Auxiliaryand Sons of the Legion function, and all proceeds will go to benefit the Auxiliary Department Presidents project, Honor Flights for Veterans.

Anyone interested in walking or donating to this cause can call the Legion at (716) 595-3145 for information.

The previous meeting minutes were read, and treasurer’s report given. For Community Service, the group continues to gather information about holding a class to learn CPR and how to use a defibrillator; more info to follow as we get details.

With the last transmittal, Unit 1280’s membership is at 92% paid for the year. The group is still taking 2023 dues for $25 to Unit 1280, PO Box 497, Cassadaga, NY 14718 or stop by the post and pay.

Plans are in the works for our annual rummage sale to be in the back hall Saturday, June 3 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

While “spring cleaning” please remember the event. One person’s trash is another’s treasure! The next unit meeting will be Tuesday April 11 at 6:30 p.m. in the Legion Post. All members are encouraged to attend, to help our mission to help our Veterans and community.
