Gowanda names top students for April

Devan Giambrone

GOWANDA – The Student Council of Gowanda High School named six outstanding Panthers as Students of the Month for April.

Honorees are selected based on the following attributes – collaboration, communication, critical thinking and creativity – otherwise known as The Four C’s. These skills and characteristics are central to the district’s mission and values.

¯ Devan Giambrone for creativity: “Devan has consistently exemplified creativity. It is not only the content and subject matter that she gets creative with in her art projects, it is the technical strategies that she often makes up on the fly to help her achieve the end result she is desiring. Experimentation and risk taking are the backbone of her creativity. Whether it’s taking chances in layering colors in printmaking or perfecting ways to paint a moonlit landscape, she tries new ways to make her artwork better and better. In the end, it is both her projects that benefit from her creative problem solving and her peers.” – Mr. Galas.

¯ William Szalay for communication: “William Szalay is a great example of what communication looks like. Will is a constant contributor to classroom discussions, and is not afraid to ask questions if something doesn’t seem clear. He always strives to do his best, and will go above and beyond what is required to ensure he understands the material and all his work is complete. Will also helps create a positive, relaxed environment in the classroom, and is such a pleasure to have. Great job, Will!” – Ms. Dauoheuang.

¯ Christopher Burger for communication: “On any day during LEGO Robotics class Chris is willing to share his thoughts and ideas about how to build and/or improve the current assignment. Chris works well with his team partner Zack and has offered his assistance to the other teams tasked with the same challenge. There is a noticeable silence when Chris Burger is not in the room, which makes class less vibrant and energized. You could say without Chris in the room the class is just fries, we need a “Burger” to complete the combo.” – Mr. Spiegel

¯ Helena Wallschlaeger for communication: “Helena is a master of communication in Advanced World History. She participates every day in class and always is a positive contributor to our classroom. She always listens to her fellow classmates and teacher. Helena is also one of the most positive people I know. She brings out the best in others by always being her best self. She builds on the ideas and thoughts of others to keep the discussion going. She is always prepared to put herself out there, bringing so much brightness to our class each and every day.” – Ms. Haim.

¯ Braydon Boler for critical thinking: “Braydon is an exemplary student in anatomy. He devotes significant amounts of time to mastering difficult concepts, asks incisive ques Braydon Boler tions to deepen his understanding, and works hard to integrate multiple ways of understanding material into a robust and coherent framework. He tenaciously embraces challenge and pushes himself to engage with even the most nuanced and complex content in a demanding course.” – Mr. Izard.

¯ Liz Malek for critical thinking: “Liz Malek has been performing consistently above average in Living Environment throughout the year. Liz displays her ability to think critically on both class and laboratory assignments. Liz asks for clarification when needed so that she can understand the concepts and provide those in-depth explanations that we are looking for. Liz is also a great collaborator, always willing to work in any lab group to which she is assigned.” – Ms. King
