Legion Auxiliary installs officers
CASSADAGA — The Cassadaga Legion Auxiliary Unit 1280 held their monthly meeting at the Legion Post, Tuesday, June 13 with 16 senior members attending, and one junior member.
The meeting was opened in regular fashion; previous meeting minutes were read, and the Treasurer gave the May report.
Pat Hayward introduced our newest Junior member, Brynley Frank. Brynley was welcomed into the Unit with a pin, an American flag, and Junior booklet, and a certificate acknowledging her participation in the “Boots on the Ground” walk-a-thon in April. She raised more than $80 for this project.
Americanism chairperson Ranee Kaus reported the Post 1280 Flag Program has 250 sponsored flags flying in the village; over 90 of these flags are sponsored by Unit 1280 members. Chaplain Paula Pattison reported she has sent sympathy and get-well cards to Legion Family members. It was noted that we have several “Celebrations of Life” coming up in the summer months.
Membership chairperson Sally Lawson noted there is still a few Unit 1280 members not paid for 2023. The $25 dues need to be paid before the 2024 cards are issued. Members can pay by bringing them to the Post or mail them to: Cassadaga Auxiliary Unit 1280, 228 Maple Avenue, Cassadaga, 14718.
Poppy chairperson Carol Baker thanked everyone for a very successful Poppy season, May 26 to 29. She announced this was her last year doing Poppies. She has held this committee for over 40 years. Unit 1280 members gave her a standing ovation for all she has accomplished with this very worthy Veteran project.
For Memorial Day, Unit 1280 joined Post 1280 and SAL members for the Memorial Day 11 cemetery visits, the parade in Cassadaga, and the ceremony in the Cassadaga cemetery; it was a very humbling, yet rewarding day spent honoring our fallen soldiers.
The group will continue to be at the remaining Cruise Nights that will be held the last Tuesday of the summer months: July 25 and Aug. 29 from 6 to 9 p.m. There was discussion on the upcoming Parking Lot dance to be held at the Post, Sunday July 16 from 1 to 5 p.m.
There are future events in the planning stages, for later in the summer, more details as they come through.
The installation of officers was held. They include: President, Ranee Kaus; 1st Vice President Bev Speelberg; Secretary, Carol Baker; Treasurer, Sue DeGolier; Chaplain Paula Pattison; Sgt-at-Arms, Lynn Moeller.
Unit 1280’s next meeting will be our annual summertime get together on Tuesday Aug. 8 at 6 p.m., with an informal meeting to follow.
