The Rotary Club of Dunkirk-Fredonia awarded two scholarships to graduating seniors of Dunkirk High School and two scholarships to graduating seniors of Fredonia High School.
The Dunkirk scholarship recipients were Michelle Sek and Isabella T. Vasques and the Fredonia scholarships were granted to Timothy A. Branden III and Arianna Huber.
Sek participated on the Dunkirk swim team throughout her high school career.
Sek was also very involved with the Dunkirk French language program, qualifying for the NYS Seal of Biliteracy in French and English.
Sek is also a member of the East Dunkirk Fire Ladies Auxiliary, a volunteer program with the East Dunkirk Fire Department. After graduation, she plans to attend Jamestown Community College to become a registered nurse.
Vasques was the Vice President of the National Honor Society and the Secretary of the Spanish National Honor Society at Dunkirk High School.
She was also a captain of the Varsity Cheer and volleyball teams and was selected as the MVP of the Varsity Cheer team. Vasques intends to further her education at SUNY Fredonia with a major in writing.
Branden was a band, jazz band, and pit orchestra member all four years of high school.
He participated in winter All County, spring All County, and All County Jazz Band as well as the winter and spring NYSSMA competitions.
Branden is one of only three students in Fredonia High School history talented enough to play the set book for the High School musicals. This is a job usually given to professional musicians.
Branden will attend SUNY Fredonia in the fall as a Percussion Performance Major and hopes to one day play in the pit orchestras on Broadway.
Huber is a two-time Section 6 Class B varsity soccer champion. She was a member of the Model United Nations Club, Interact Club, and National Honors Society. She was also Editor in Chief of the award-winning student newspaper, the SPECTATOR and a member of the Interact Club. Huber will be attending Niagara University in the fall as a psychology major.
