County legion members attend annual convention in Westchester

The delegation from Chautauqua County American Legion with Nelson Oldfield, 8th District Commander, includes: Steven L. Cybart, past County Commander, Mattie McIntyre, county Vice Commander, Barbara Colt, county judge advocate, Henry Link, Past 8th District Commander, Walter Ackley, Past Department Vice Commander, Kirk Miller County Commander. Missing from the photo was John Miga, past 8th District Commander.

The American Legion Department of New York held its 105th annual convention from July 17 to 22 in Westchester. The American Legion 8th District Commander, Henry Link, from the John W. Dill American Legion Post 434 was in attendance as well as Past Department Vice Commander Walt Ackley (Post 59 Fredonia).

County representatives included the Past 8th District Commander John Miga (Post 62 Dunkirk) Kirk Miller (Post 59 Fredonia), Chautauqua County Commander, Past County Commander, Steve Cybart (Post 638 Falconer), Mattie McIntyre, Post 434 Commander, and Barbara Colt, Post 434 Chaplain.

During this convention, New York State Department of the American Legion selected delegates and alternate delegates to attend the National American Legion Convention in Charlotte, NC from August 25-31, 2023 in which 5 delegates from Chautauqua County will attend. Chautauqua County received a citation for reporting 100% of the county activities to the department on the annual consolidated report which provides information at the national level to be reported to Congress. During the convention, the Robert Pedro $1,000 scholarship was awarded to Westfield senior Connor Graham for excellent academics.
