CIAO celebrates at Harvest Dinner

Shari Mullen highlights the making of Limoncello.

More than 40 members attended the Harvest Dinner and Limoncello making in October. Dinner was consistent with vegetables that one may harvest from your garden, including pasta Norma, (pasta with eggplant), a special baked chicken, homemade bread and for dessert cassata cake.

During the short meeting preceding the limoncello demonstration and tasting, it was again discussed making Italian cookies to be sold at the Italian Festival next year. Volunteers to make, frost, and box cookies include: Jane Russo, Ginny Bonasera, Judy Nixon, Bev Pagano, Sally Crisanti, Nance Ortolano, Patty Russo, Terri Corsaro, Lynda Mosher, Patsy Congdon Church, Cheryl Kniese-Majecki, and Linda Amino, this would be a fund-raiser for the club.

Chairpersons for the following activities are as follows: Cooking Class -- the art of making arincini, Shari Mullen; Christmas Party, Bev Pagano and Ginny Bonasera; Lynda Mosher, Willow Mission Stockings; St Joseph Day, Terri Corsaro and Jane Russo and Annual Picnic, Michelle, Jo Ann Patterson, and Deanna Borrello.

It was decided that this year the St. Joseph Day dinner will be a potluck, with members volunteering to make the traditional dishes. Members will be contacted by phone and e mail as to what foods they can bring.

Sam Crisanti spoke about the origin of Columbus Day and led members in grace before dinner. A moment of silence was observed for the people of Israel and innocent Muslim people on the Gaza Strip.

Mullen demonstrated how to make Crema di Limoncello, a delicious after-dinner drink shared in Italy, especially in Sorrento and Sicily, but with a little spin! Different types of alcohol maybe used as the base, with varying alcohol content, but added is whole milk, cream or half and half. This is then kept in freezer and served icy cold.

She shared her previously made Limoncello with different alcohol levels and members determined which their favorite was. Winning the Harvest theme basket was Cheryl Sheedy.
