The AG Team helps Habitat for Humanity
On Saturday, July 27, eight members of the AG Team from Dunkirk joined the regularly scheduled Habitat workday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Team members contributed both muscle, skills, and time to help construct a new house for a working family at 9-11 Genet St. This family will assume ownership upon completion of the house and pay both the mortgage and taxes for their new house. The AG Team proved invaluable as they strung temporary electrical work lighting inside the house; they waterproofed the lower exterior insulation; they used an excavator to level the driveway; they installed the second floor decking for an attic storage area; they sawed lumber for insulation barriers in the attic; they completed the insulation around the exterior of the windows; they placed insulation around the windows inside the house; they installed the exterior wall insulation on one side of the house; and they trimmed and cut the grass in the yard. All in all, their work was a huge boost to the construction process for this house. This Habitat house also has our “regular” volunteers who come to work on Saturday mornings and on some weekdays when needed. Most of these dedicated volunteers have worked tirelessly on anywhere from two to 1- houses in Chautauqua County because they believe that helping a family purchase a home will improve the lives of not only the family members but of the entire neighborhood and community. They just love giving of themselves for the benefit of others.
