It was a week before Christmas, and all through the halls of School 3 in Dunkirk, the students were celebrating the holiday season.
School 3 hosted the district wide Season’s Readings primary schools literacy event on Tuesday, Dec. 17. Families were welcomed to the school with festive instrumental holiday music performed by Dunkirk’s own Ian Hill and Melissa Mead.
After checking in, the evening unfolded with a variety of engaging activities. In the library, Ms. Sievert brought stories to life with her animated readings. Students enthusiastically created holiday crafts with guidance from Upward Bound volunteers, while sight word and sound bingo games thrilled participants, especially the lucky winners who took home new books.
Families enjoyed a relaxing moment to write letters to Santa and sipped custom hot chocolate from “Starbooks,” complete with their choice of toppings in personalized to-go cups.
Recharged, attendees lined up to meet Santa, Paul Gee, and also crafted beautiful paper snowflakes with assistance from Dunkirk Honor Society members Mackenzie Curry and Aaliyah Morales. A holiday movement break helped kids release some festive energy, followed by a calming face painting session in a cozy, fireplace-themed setting.

The event was a joyful celebration of literacy and holiday cheer. The district offered thanks to Arly & Izzy’s Catering and More for their donation of holiday balloons and decorations, which the district said “truly elevated the event to the next level.”
The district also welcomed Laff ‘n’ Lyon Ranch as its surprise guest for the evening. Their enchanting horse and wagon rides created a magical experience that brought holiday cheer to everyone!
