Family reunion held in Sheridan Bay Park
The Smith-Schmidt-Krawiec family gathered earlier this month for the 63rd reunion.
The Smith-Schmidt-Krawiec family held their 63rd family reunion on Aug. 2 at the Sheridan Bay Park on Route 5, on beautiful Lake Erie. Guests enjoyed the beautiful beach and the children made bottle “beaches” with water, sand and beach glass.
The families of Angie Leone and Stella and Joe Granata came early at 10 a.m. to set up the tables and decorations. They hung up the Polish, Canadian and the American flags to welcome the many guests that came from Florida, Indiana and various areas in New York.
Angie and Stella are a part of the George T. Smith family. Other family members are Michael, Paul, Katherine, Joe, Stella and Josephine Smith and Peter and John Schmidt.
A large table was assembled to display a large assortment of food. Polish sausage and sauerkraut, Italian sausage and peppers, cheese pierogi, corn on the cob, macaroni salad, vegetable salad, pizza and an assortment of appetizers were set up. A creative dessert looked like a hot dog in a bun, but it was lady fingers with red and yellow drizzled frosting to look like catsup and mustard. Peanut butter pie, brownies, pineapple delight, jello cake, a large container of fresh fruit and watermelon were additional choices.
One of the games played was a water balloon toss with Laurie and Ron Siracuse and Louie and Kerry Leone tying for winners.
When each one arrived to sign in, they were given a clothespin clipped to their shirts. Throughout the day, if you got caught crossing your legs or arms, whomever saw it could take the clothespin. The one with the most clothespins was the winner. Vivian and Alison Seavy were winners.
We had entertainment all day by a band called “The Madison Crawl” from Cleveland, Ohio.
Joe Granata II led the family in prayer.
Angie Leone welcomed everyone. She thanked Joe and Rene Granata for the meat entree and various beverages. She also thanked the committee for all their help setting up.
She also remembered the following deaths this past year: Kay San George, Carol Ann San George, Donald San George and David San George. Michael Telchak from Canada also passed away.
The only birth was a daughter, Maeve Elizabeth, to Dominic and Rhys Woods, granddaughter of Toni Marie and Lee Hoang and great-granddaughter of Joe and Rene Granata and great-great granddaughter of Stella and Joe Granata.
Vivian Seavy was the youngest child. Paul and Lillian Giambra and Joe Granata were the oldest.
Lillian and Paul Giambra traveled the farthest from Punta Gorda, Florida and the Leones traveled from Valparaiso, Indiana.
The next reunion will take place on Aug. 1, 2026. Chairwomen will be Dawn Krull, Susan Styborski and Donna Smith.
