Bud ‘n Bloom names new officers

The Bud ‘n Bloom Garden Club’s installation banquet was held at the White Inn. Pictured are the officers for the 2026-2027 year. Front row: Nancy Kohler, co-president; Sally Newell, secretary. Back row: Sue Drag, treasurer; Judy Wilcox, co-president.

The White Inn of Fredonia made the 14 members of the Bud ‘n Bloom Garden Club feel very welcome with its lovely landscaping; helpful, dedicated staff and the new 11 beautiful, square, dark straw containers filled with an amazing array of annual flowers. Perfect flower selections for the Club’s annual Spring Banquet and Installation of Officers, were pink million bell petunias, lime creeping jenny, black regular petunias, burgundy coleus and bright blue lobelia, to name a few. Bright red wax begonias framed the front entrance while the other arrangements graced the front and side steps and the front desk area.

Walking into the private dining room, members were enchanted by the spring-like atmosphere created by secretary and banquet chairlady, Sally Newell. Hand-styled, puffy peonies in pink, white and peach were placed around the u-shaped tables in clear white vases and tied with pink ribbons. Floral clear stones filled the vases. The ladies gladly shared the peonies to enjoy in their homes upon leaving.

Tiny vases of white roses added to the decor along with yellow and pink napkins. Newell had also compiled a program book of the year’s activities for each month and all pertinent information regarding each of the 16 current members. It was noted that Judy Wilcox had been a member the longest, joining in 1974.

A discussion and review of the year’s program activities was held, and adjusted.

After the meal, a staff member of the Inn took a group photo and a photo of the Club officers for the year.

Members were reminded of the next two events. Barb Joy has arranged for the group to again do the flower planting at the Point Gratiot Lighthouse this month. There will also be a plant and gardening items exchange. This activity is a favorite among the members. On June 10, Doug Kohler will give a presentation on local history. The group will first meet at the home of his parents and carpool to a nearby location for the walking tour.

Starting at $3.50/week.
