The Chadwick Bay Chapter of NYS Women, Inc. recently met at Shorewood Country Club. In 2009, we changed our name to The New York State Women Inc. Chadwick Bay Chapter (formerly known as Dunkirk Fredonia Business and Professional Women). The purpose of this group is to make a difference in the lives of working women personally, professionally and politically. We offer networking for the empowerment and growth of women, insight into the balance of work and family, and build leadership skills to further careers. This year we are celebrating 84 years as a business organization.
The New York State Women Inc. Chadwick Bay Chapter is pleased to announce this year's scholarship winners. They both are highly motivated women. Emily Kalfas and Lauren Jagoda submitted their applications through Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation of which we have funded an on-going scholarship.
Emily is currently employed at Chautauqua Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Dunkirk. Emily has been working for 17 years as a CNA and LPN at various nursing facilities in Chautauqua County. She recently graduated from JCC and passed her NYS Boards as a registered nurse. She has accepted a supervisory role at Chautauqua Nursing and Rehabilitation. She will continue her education with aspirations of becoming a nurse practitioner.
Lauren Jagoda attends D'Youville College. She is extremely committed to being self-sufficient and dedicated to her goal of being a registered nurse and certification with midwifery. Her cousin provided valuable information about the experience of helping women during labor and delivering babies which emotionally impacted Lauren. She wants to use her degree to make an impact on the lives of women by providing future patients with compassionate and supportive care.
The early chapter had one small fundraiser (the Women's Get-a-Way Weekend) to fund its scholarship for women furthering their education in business. Chadwick Bay established a perpetual scholarship through the Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation for non-traditional female students returning or currently enrolled in college and are working to better themselves at their current employment. Our group has also made monetary donations to Northern Chautauqua Boys and Girls Club, St. Gianna Outreach Center, Dunkirk Free Library, Revitalize Dunkirk, Meals on Wheels, and purchases clothing and Christmas gifts for the displaced young adults in our area.
The club offers younger and women of any age an opportunity to listen to others on how to make a difference in the community. The women of the club have experience in the business community and share that with the next generation. The state offers endowments and scholarships for women in advanced educational programs.
