Camp Gross will celebrate an incredible milestone in 2029 -- 100 years of existence!
In 1929, Robert Gross of Dunkirk generously donated the property to the Lake Shore Council of the Boy Scouts of America, which later became the Allegheny Highlands Council. His vision was for the property to be used as a camp for Boy Scouts.
In 1988, the Allegheny Highlands Council was no longer able to maintain the property. A not-for-profit corporation was then established, and the Camp Gross Foundation was incorporated to preserve Camp Gross as a camp for youth.
Over the years, Camp Gross has provided countless young people with opportunities to experience nature, the outdoors, friendship, learning, and adventure. Unfortunately, our usage has declined since COVID due to fewer Scout units and youth groups utilizing the camp.
For many years, Camp Gross was also home to the annual Dunkirk Day Camp. This brought hundreds of children to camp each summer and introduced many families to the beautiful natural habitat Camp Gross has to offer. The program also helped connect Camp Gross with many generous donors. With the financial instability of the program, we have lost both the annual Day Camp and some of our most generous sources of support.
That is why fundraising is more important than ever.
This year marks the 8th Annual Dr. John R. & Alona Forbes Golf Tournament and Basket Raffle! Over the years, we have been blessed with an amazing community of supporters who have donated baskets, gift cards, prizes, sponsorships, and their time to help keep Camp Gross going.
Camp members are looking for golfers to join us for an 18-hole, two-person scramble on Saturday, Sept. 19 at the Cassadaga Country Club. Registration begins at 8 a.m. Call 716-595-3003 for more information or to register.
Thanks to Basil Fredonia, there will be a Hole-in-One Car Prize!
Basket raffle tickets will also be available on Friday, Sept. 18, from 4 p.m. until Dusk, and on Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 8 a.m. until noon at the Cassadaga Country Club.
