The Fredonia Garden Club began its new year in May with the installation of officers at The Trillium Lodge in Cherry Creek. Fresh flowers for the table and delicious carrot cake for dessert were provided by the president, Kim Woodward.

Following lunch, Past President, Rosemary Mancuso, administered the oath of office to the following: President, Woodward; Vice President, Roxanne Fisk; Recording Secretary, Barbara Lehnen; Corresponding Secretary, Peggy Spears; Treasurer, Illa Merryweather. Each officer was presented with a description of their duties, along with an ornamental rabbit and self-watering plant stake as tokens of appreciation. A tour through the Amish country followed, with stops along the way to purchase flowers and other Amish delights.

The June meeting featured guest presenter, beekeeper, Joe DePaleo, who gave an interesting and very informative presentation on raising honeybees, caring for the hives, and harvesting the honey. Much information was shared with the members during a Q&A session. In keeping with the theme of "Out of My Garden", several members brought lovely arrangements of flowers from their gardens for all to enjoy.

The July meeting was held at the home of Illa Merryweather. Members brought a wonderful assortment of food and desserts, and delicious barbecued ribs were provided by Bill. Following dinner, the group relaxed on the deck and by the pool. The couple's beautiful gardens and landscaping, including many lovely hanging baskets, were enjoyed by all.

On a lovely late summer day members met at Point Gratiot in Dunkirk for their September meeting. They walked the Discovery Way Trail where they were able to view various wildflowers, many colorful birdhouses attached to the trees, and the many creative and original stations that were constructed by dedicated volunteers from Revitalize Dunkirk over many months to be enjoyed by children and adults alike. Logs from felled trees were used to line the path, and to build an elevated platform and seating area for performances. A picnic lunch and business meeting followed. It was a beautiful afternoon on the shores of Lake Erie.

October brought the Club to the Forestville Fall Fest. As their annual fundraiser, an assortment of unique raffle baskets created by members will be available for attendees to win at the conclusion of the Fest. At the October meeting, members will bring their fresh or dried Fall flower arrangements for all to enjoy. There will also be an instructional program about pruning trees and bushes.

Looking ahead, the group will gather in November and December to make wreaths and Christmas table arrangements to enjoy during the holiday season.

The annual Christmas luncheon and gift exchange will take place in December. In January, members will begin to plan the programs for the upcoming yearbook.

The Fredonia Garden Club continues to maintain the Barker Library seasonal flower arrangements, the Library Memorial Bench flowers, Christmas wreaths on the doors of the Opera House, and also the tree and flowers at the Fire Hall.

Starting at /week.
