Couple to celebrate 50 years

Also participating in the wedding ceremony were young nieces of the groom Colleen Marie Howe Garrett and Heather Ann Howe Conway of Hamburg.

On Saturday, Aug. 22, 1970, John Francis Sipos Jr. and Susan Lynn Washington were married at 4 p.m. The marriage ceremony took place at the Cassadaga Community Baptist Church in Cassadaga and was performed by Rev. David P. Foulk. Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the White Inn in Fredonia, and the couple honeymooned in the Pennsylvania Pocono Mountains.

John is the son of the late John and Katherine Bracken Sipos of Hamburg, and Susan is the daughter of the late John M. and Lillian Fredrickson Washington of Cassadaga.

When married, John and Susan were teachers in the Frontier Central School system in Hamburg. John was a mathematics teacher and department chairman, and Susan was an art teacher and district department chairman. They retired after 33 years of teaching and currently live in Cassadaga, where both of them of are involved in Community organizations.

John serves as the Village of Cassadaga Historian, and the town of Stockton Historian, the Swedish Thule Lodge Historian, and the treasurer of the Valley Historical Society. Susan is the vice chairman of the Thule Lodge, Jamestown Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, Chautauqua County Genealogy Society, and the Hilltop Spinners spinning wheel group. Both are very involved for the last 20 years with the Sinclairville 76ers meals on wheels program, which serves the Cassadaga Valley area. These are just some of their many activities.
