Alleged burglar arrested following chase

Elijah Abdul Rivera

An arrest has been made following a burglary earlier this week in Dunkirk.

According to Police Chief David Ortolano, on Monday around 8:30 a.m. officers responded to a Warsaw Street residence for a report of a burglary in progress.

Police allege Elijah Abdul Rivera, 20, entered a garage and stole property. The resident called police with a description of the suspect, where the suspect was headed and then chased after him. Responding patrol officers set up a perimeter and located Rivera on Chestnut Street, however he allegedly continued to flee from officers.

After a lengthy foot chase through neighborhood yards officers took Rivera into custody on Front Street. Police report the subject struggled and fought with officers as they attempted to take him into custody.

Rivera was transported to the City Holding Center, arraigned on charges of third-degree burglary, a Class D Felony, two counts of resisting arrest and petit larceny before City Court Judge Walter Drag. He was sent to the Chautauqua County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash/$40,000 bond bail.

Starting at $3.50/week.
