Jamestown Police identify 5-year-old accident victim

Police have identified the 5-year-old victim of Friday’s tragic sledding accident as Isabella M. Stanford.

Isabella died Friday evening at WCA Hospital after being struck by a car on Foote Avenue in Jamestown. According to police, she was sledding at a house on Hazzard Street that backs up to Foote Avenue and the sled on which she was riding slid into the road where it was struck by an SUV.

At the time, Isabella, a kindergartener at Fletcher Elementary School, was sledding with three other children, including a twin sibling. The oldest child in the group was a 7-year-old and another 5-year-old was also involved. All four children had a family connection. At this time, police are not saying who was supervising the children or how old that person is.

“Parents need to be aware of what their children are doing,” said Captain Bob Samuelson of the Jamestown Police Department. “Even if they are with friends, parents need to know who is responsible for them, who is supervising them.”

Investigators are still investigating the incident and charges against the driver are not expected.
