More charges against man found with alleged gun, drugs

JAMESTOWN – Jamestown Police Department has filed more charges against a Jamestown man following an incident Tuesday.

Police have determined that the loaded gun that was recovered from Zaid Mendoza, 35, as he fled from police was stolen. The gun was reported stolen to the city of Warren, Pa., police department in August from a residential burglary. Investigators were able to recover portions of the scratched off serial number to determine and match it to the numbers from the stolen gun in Warren, Pa. Mendoza is now facing an additional charge of fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property. He was set to be arraigned in Jamestown City Court Wednesday morning.

Erie County Sheriff’s Office

IRVING – William Brooks, 47, of Brant was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated on Tuesday. At 7:23 p.m. deputies responded to the complaint of a vehicle striking a tree on Versailles Plank Road on the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation. Brooks was found to be allegedly intoxicated and submitted to a chemical breath test. His blood alcohol content was found to be .18 percent. He was released on appearance tickets for Brant Town Court.

Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office

Yaneleen Morales, 20, of Lord Street, Dunkirk was charged with fourth-degree welfare fraud, misuse of SNAP/food stamps and second-degree offering a false instrument for filing on Wednesday.

Morales allegedly failed to report employment and income for a subject that was living with her and a common child to the Chautauqua County Department of Social Services. From June 1 to July 31, 2012 she allegedly receives $1,514.50 of benefits that she was not entitled to receive. Morales was released on an appearance ticket for Jamestown City Court.
