Boater injured from overheating engine
MAYVILLE – A boater on Chautauqua Lake suffered multiple burns Tuesday after being sprayed by hot antifreeze.
According to the Chau-tauqua County Sheriff’s Office, the male boater – whose name was not released – was operating a 19-foot Four Winns vessel on the lake when his engine overheated around noon. The boater, in an attempt to fix the problem, removed the radiator cap and was reportedly sprayed by hot antifreeze.
Police said the man suffered multiple burns on his back, arms and face.
Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Navigation deputies responded to the scene and aided the victim.
The man was transported to WCA Hospital by Bemus Point Fire Rescue.

GERRY – Dalton Gifford, 19, of Jamestown was taken into custody Saturday and charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs. Gifford was pulled over on Route 60 for alleged traffic violations. While speaking to Gifford, troopers smelled marijuana emanating from inside the vehicle. Gifford displayed signs of being impaired by marijuana and was placed under arrest after failing multiple standard field sobriety tests.
A teenage passenger was arrested for allegedly possessing a marijuana cigarette and released with an appearance ticket. At Jamestown headquarters, a Chautauqua County drug recognition expert preformed an evaluation on Gifford and determined he was under the influence of marijuana. Gifford was processed, issued tickets returnable to Gerry Town Court and released.
KENNEDY – Ryan Fusco, 30, of Frewsburg was taken into custody Friday and charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated. According to reports, troopers responded to Route 62 for a report of a vehicle repeatedly attempting to strike an Amish buggy and horse (this report was corroborated by the interview of witnesses). Upon arrival, they located Fusco behind the wheel of his vehicle in what appeared to be an intoxicated condition.
Fusco was placed under arrest after failing multiple standard field sobriety tests and transported to Jamestown headquarters where he provided a breath sample of .21 percent. He was then processed, issued tickets returnable to Poland Town Court and released.
Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office
On Sunday around 7:55 p.m., deputies stopped a motor vehicle in the town of Harmony after observing several traffic infractions. The operator, Dawn L. Hall, 48, of Panama was later allegedly found to be in an intoxicated condition.
After processing, Hall was charged with driving while intoxicated per se, driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol content of .08 percent or more, moving from lane unsafely and failure to keep right. She was released with tickets to appear in court.
HANOVER – Robert N. Rodems, 54, of Buffalo was taken into custody and charged with several offenses after his vehicle was stopped by deputies Sunday at about 10:45 p.m. on Allegany Road. Allegedly, Rodems had failed to dim his high beams, and upon investigation, he was found to be intoxicated. His charges include felony driving while intoxicated (conviction within the past 10 years), DWI per se, felony aggravated unlicensed operation, operating without ignition interlock device, and failure to dim high beams. Rodems will answer these charges in Hanover Town Court.
BROCTON – Michael Dotson, 44, of Brocton was taken into custody and charged with driving while intoxicated, DWI per se, second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation and operating with no tail lights after deputies stopped his vehicle on East Main Street Saturday just before 9 p.m. Allegedly, deputies first noticed Dotson was operating his vehicle without tail lights, and upon investigation, ascertained that Dotson was intoxicated. He will answer for himself in Brocton Village Court.
Cattaraugus County Court
LITTLE VALLEY – Lori Pettit Rieman, Cattaraugus County district attorney, reported the following activity in Cattaraugus County Court:
- Reginald Irion, 57, of Gowanda, was arraigned and entered a plea of not guilty to an indictment that charges him with two counts of fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, class B felonies, and two counts of fifth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, class B felonies. The prosecution alleges the incident occurred in the town of Persia, when the defendant knowingly and unlawfully possessed and sold a narcotic drug.
The matter has been adjourned for motions.
- Andrew Usyk, 25, of Gowanda, entered a plea of guilty to driving while intoxicated, a class E felony, to satisfy a pending indictment. The incident occurred on Dec. 27, 2015, in the town of Perrysburg, when the defendant operated a motor vehicle in an intoxicated condition, having a .10 percent blood alcohol content.
Sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 31.

Publishers Clearing House scam in Jamestown
JAMESTOWN?- The Jamestown Police Department is investigating a fraud complaint for an incident that took place over the course of several weeks.
The perpetrators represented themselves as agents for Publishers Clearing House. After gaining the confidence of an elderly victim, the victim was asked to send money to different locations to cover for taxes and fees regarding cash and prizes that were coming to her. Contact was made to the victim by phone from an 876 area code. 876 is an area code for Jamaica. Contact was also made through the mail, including a letter on what appeared to be Publishers Clearing House letterhead. The perpetrators did get several thousands of dollars from the victim.
Officials at Publishers Clearing House stated they do not notify winners via telephone calls or through any social media or email. The official also stated they do not ever ask for money to be sent to them for any taxes or fees.
Jamestown Police suggest that any information people receive about winning prizes be closely scrutinized. It is very likely anyone asking for money to be sent out or for personal information is a part of a scam.

POLAND – Steven Ward, 46, of Jamestown was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated and unlawful possession of marijuana on Sunday.
Ward was pulled over on Route 62 in Kennedy for allegedly failing to dim his high beams and placed under arrest after failing multiple standard field sobriety tests. A bag containing marijuana and a marijuana cigarette were allegedly located in Ward’s pockets when he was searched prior to transport.
At the State Police barracks in Jamestown, Ward reportedly provided a breath sample of .18 percent. Ward was then processed, issued tickets returnable to the Poland Town Court and released.
Ward is scheduled to appear in Poland Town Court next month to answer the charges.
ARKWRIGHT – Nicolette Lamb, 38, of Dunkirk was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated on Saturday.
Troopers responded to a report of a vehicle in the ditch on Straight Road in Fredonia and placed Lamb under arrest after she failed multiple standard field sobriety tests. Lamb was transported to the State Police barracks in Fredonia, where she reportedly provided a breath sample of .18 percent. Lamb was then processed, issued tickets returnable to Arkwright Town Court, and released.
Lamb is scheduled to appear in the Arkwright Town Court next month to answer the charge.
POLAND – Daniel Graham Jr., 27, of Falconer, was charged with driving while intoxicated on Sunday.
Graham was pulled over on Route 394 in Falconer for an alleged traffic violation, and after allegedly failing several standard field sobriety tests, Graham was placed under arrest. He was transported to the State Police barracks in Jamestown, where he reportedly provided a breath sample of .11 percent. He was then processed, issued tickets returnable to Poland Town Court and released.

CHARLOTTE – Randy S. Rasmussen, 29, and Andi L. Rasmussen, 26, both of Jamestown, were each charged with criminally possessing a hypodremic instrument after a traffic stop for speeding in the town of Charlotte Friday just after midnight. Both were issued tickets for Charlotte Town Court.
STOCKTON – Samuel L Heavern, 44, of Hamburg was charged with driving while intoxicated, DWI per se and speeding after a traffic stop of Route 380 in the town of Stockton Friday around 5 p.m. Heavern was allegedly found to be intoxicated and will appear in Stockton Town Court at a later date.
POLAND – On Saturday at about 11:18 p.m., deputies were dispatched to a report of a motor vehicle accident involving one vehicle on Route 394 in the town of Poland.
After investigation, it was found that Jace Warner, 21, of Sinclairville, was operating the vehicle heading eastbound when he fell asleep, crossing over into the westbound lane and continuing into the ditch.
The driver and passenger – Stevie Provorse, 22, of Conewango Valley – were taken by ambulance to WCA Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Warner was issued traffic tickets for failure to keep right and unsafe/illegal tires.

STOW – Michael Schaut, 26, of Erie, Pennsylvania, was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana Friday after a traffic stop on Interstate 86. The trooper allegedly smelled marijuana emanating from the vehicle and found three grams in Schaut’s possession. He was issued tickets and will appear in North Harmony Town Court at a later date.

Teens charged in burglary
Two 15-year-olds have been charged in connection with a burglary at a Dunkirk liquor store two weeks ago.
Dunkirk police reported Friday the teens, who will be in Family Court, have been charged with third-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief and petit larceny.
The teens allegedly smashed the front window of the Main Wine & Spirits store at 159 E. Fourth St. around 11:40 p.m. Aug. 12 and took several bottles of alcohol.

JAMESTOWN – Luis R. Fernandez, 34, of Cassadaga has been charged with petit larceny and misuse of food stamps. It is alleged Fernandez received food stamp benefits from March 1, 2015 to Feb. 29, 2016 to which he was not entitled. Fernandez, reportedly, failed to report income he was receiving from two different sources, and received $954 in unentitled food stamps. He is scheduled to answer these charges in Jamestown City Court.
JAMESTOWN – Jason L. Parker, 43, of Jamestown was charged with several offenses Tuesday after deputies stopped his vehicle on Washington Street for alleged traffic violations at about 6:35 p.m. Investigation led deputies to determine that Parker was intoxicated, reports say. He was taken into custody and charged with driving while intoxicated, DWI .08 percent or higher, first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, passing a red light and failure to yield at an intersection. He was later released and is scheduled to appear in Jamestown City Court next month to answer the charges.

- Rico A. Acevedo, 20, of Fredonia was charged with and issued two appearance tickets for open container and unlawful possession of alcohol on Aug. 19.
- Gregory R. Yenson, 21, of Williamsville, was charged with and issued an appearance ticket for open container on Aug. 20.
- Thomas J. Marcote, 19, of Point Lookout was charged with and issued three appearance tickets for open container, unlawful possession of alcohol and littering on Aug. 20.

- Emily R. Ferry, 19, of Dunkirk was charged with driving while intoxicated and moving from lane unsafely on Aug. 20. Ferry was traveling west on West Lucas Avenue when she allegedly struck the driver’s side of an unoccupied vehicle.
- Nicholas A. Polvino, 26, of Fredonia was charged with failure to yield right of way and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance on Aug. 20.
- Davonte T. Grayson, 17, of Jamestown was charged with no lights, unlicensed operator and unlawful possession of marijuana on Aug. 22.
- Byron K. Oaks, 28, of Fredonia was charged with second-degree menacing on Aug. 22.
- Michael B. Young Jr., 28, of Dunkirk was charged with second-degree harassment on Aug. 23.
- Dakota P. Murphy Jr., 18, of Dunkirk was charged with two counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, third- and fourth-degree criminal trespass, and unlawful possession of marijuana on Aug. 24.
- Dawn Stein, 40, of Brocton was charged on a warrant out for her arrest for the manufacturing of meth on Aug. 25.

Three from Erie charged in Sherman home invasion
SHERMAN – Three Erie, Pennsylvania, residents were charged Wednesday in a home invasion that occurred over the weekend.
Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the incident 134 Cornish St. around 6:30 a.m. Sunday. It is alleged that Nicholas Tobin, 32, June Hoovler, 37, and Jamie Markham, 35, entered a home and remained there unlawfully. There was a female, a male, and a child in the home at the time of the incident.
While inside, the female resident was allegedly attacked and hit with an aluminum bat by Tobin and Hoovler while Markham stood by the front door to prevent anybody from leaving or entering the residence. The suspects allowed the male in the residence to take the child into another room while the incident occurred. The male then called 911.
The suspects allegedly stole the female victim’s cellular phone and left the residence before deputies arrived. Warrants were issued for the suspects and they were picked up without incident.
All three were arraigned on first-degree burglary, fourth-degree conspiracy, petit larceny, unlawful imprisonment and endangering the welfare of a child. Tobin and Hoovler were also charged with second-degree assault and sent to the Chautauqua County Jail.
Vehicle rolls over in crash
ELLINGTON – Four individuals were taken to the hospital following a motor vehicle accident Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to Waterboro Hill Road for a two-car personal injury accident.
Jon Walters, 70, was traveling south on Waterboro Hill Road with his passenger Elizabeth Walters, 68, both of Kennedy. Dustin Bennett, 23, was traveling north with his passenger Traya Allen-Begel, 19, both of Leon.
Bennett slowed and attempted to turn left into a driveway on the west side of the roadway. Bennett stated he did not see Walters in time and the vehicles collided. Bennett’s vehicle rolled on to its passenger side and came to rest in a ditch.
All four passengers were transported to WCA for non-life-threatening injuries.
Bennett was issued a traffic ticket for failure to yield the right of way. The sheriff’s office was assisted by Ellington and Kennedy fire departments.
Collins man nabbed for entering vehicle in Gowanda
GOWANDA – A 35-year-old man has been charged after entering a vehicle and taking a laptop computer.
Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reported that charged Jeremy Thompson of Collins after receiving reports of an individual entering a vehicle on Taylor Hallow Road. Just before midnight Tuesday, deputies responded to the Taylor Hollow Road residence and spoke with the complainant. The woman stated she observed a male enter her vehicle but nothing was taken. A short distance from the incident, a Gowanda Police Department officer and deputy located the subject and he was positively identified later by the woman.
Thompson was charged with attempted petit larceny and criminal trespassing. He also was found to possess a laptop which was returned to a separate victim who refused to press charges.
Thompson was released and will be back to answer the charges in Collins Town Court.
Gowanda man charged with drug offense
GOWANDA – As part of the Gowanda Police Department and Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force’s ongoing investigations into illegal narcotic sales in the village, members of the Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force, Gowanda Police Department, Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office and the Erie County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at 185 Buffalo St. at the Can Do Bottle Redemption in the village of Gowanda. The search warrant was executed regarding an investigation of marijuana being delivered and sold in the Gowanda area via carrier shipment.
Charles F. Smith, 36, of West Main Street, Gowanda, was charged with second-degree criminal possession of marijuana.
It is alleged the defendant received quantities of marijuana through a private mail carrier to the Buffalo Street address. The said defendant was receiving packages being shipped from another state. It is alleged that the defendant was having the packages shipped in his deceased brother’s name to his business address. During the execution of the search warrant, a package was recovered that was delivered on Aug. 22 to the address containing approximately 3.5 pounds of marijuana, and $2,300 cash was also seized as evidence. Smith was arraigned in the Collins Town Court and posted $1,500 bail. The investigation is ongoing.

Woman charged with abandoning now-deceased dog
BROCTON – A Brocton woman was charged Thurs-day after allegedly abandoning her now-deceased dog in her apartment for two months.
According to the Chau-tauqua County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received a complaint of a deceased dog at a 60 E. Main St. upper apartment in Brocton on Aug. 12.
Deputies located the dog and determined that it had been dead for an extended period of time. Witnesses said the dog was abandoned for about two months.
On Thursday, a warrant was issued for the apartment’s resident – Kelly Harrell, 33. She was taken into custody in Jamestown without incident.
Harrell was charged with abandonment of animal and overdriving, torturing and injuring an animal.
She was arraigned in Brocton Court and remanded to the Chautauqua County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 property bond.

- WESTFIELD – On Saturday around 10:51 p.m., deputies responded to a single motor vehicle crash on Pratt Road in the town of Westfield.
Upon investigation, the driver of the vehicle was identified as Ryan M. Deland, 23, of Westfield. The vehicle operated by Deland was operating at a high rate of speed and failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway, causing it to leave the roadway and strike a ditch. Further investigation found Deland to have been intoxicated.
Deland was taken into custody and later released with tickets for speed not reasonable and prudent, moving from lane unsafely, driving while intoxicated and DWI per se. He will appear in Westfield Town Court at a later date. Depu-ties were assisted by West-field Police Department, New York State Police and Portland Fire Department.
- CHAUTAUQUA – On Saturday around 12:30 a.m., deputies stopped a vehicle on Centralia-Hartfield Road in the town of Chautauqua for failing to dim its head lights. The driver was identified as David M. Latimer, 45, of Mayville, and upon investigation he was alleged to have been intoxicated. Latimer was taken into custody and later released with tickets for failure to dim head lights, driving while intoxicated and DWI per se. He will appear in the Chautauqua Town Court at a later date.
- SILVER CREEK – On Saturday at 10 p.m., deputies observed a vehicle operating at a high rate of speed on Central Avenue in the village of Silver Creek. Deputies performed a traffic stop on the vehicle and made contact with Evaristo Santiago-Padilla, 52, of Erie, Pennsylvania, who was identified as the operator. After an investigation on scene, it was determined that Santiago-Padilla was intoxicated.
When deputies attempted to place Santiago-Padilla into custody, he pulled away from deputies and resisted arrest. Santiago-Padilla was eventually placed into custody and processed. He was arraigned in Silver Creek Village Court and remanded to the Chautauqua County Jail on $1,000 cash/$1,500 property bond.
- CHARLOTTE – On Saturday at about 8:56 p.m., deputies stopped Travis R. Terry, 25, of Jamestown, on Route 60 in the town of Charlotte. The vehicle was stopped for several traffic violations including speeding. During the stop, Terry was found to be in possession of a loaded 9mm pistol. Terry does not have a pistol permit in New York or any other state. The pistols’ serial numbers had been defaced, which resulted in an additional charge.
Terry was arraigned in the town of Charlotte and held on bail on charges of criminal possession of a firearm and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, both felonies.
- GERRY – On Saturday at about 4 p.m., deputies were dispatched to the report of a one-car motor vehicle accident on Route 380 in the town of Gerry. Upon arrival, deputies located Andre J. Biekert, 47, of Fluvanna Townline Road in James-town. Through an investigation, deputies allege Biekert had went off the west shoulder of the road for no apparent reason. Biekert was also found to be in possession of a controlled substance.
Biekert was issued appearance tickets for moving from lane unsafely, unlicensed operation, failure to notify the Department of Motor Vehicles of address change, second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Biekert will appear in Gerry Town Court at a later date.

High-speed chase injures two; charges are likely
A high-speed chase through Hanover, Silver Creek and Sheridan Saturday morning has left two injured after a vehicle crash and both the driver and passenger will likely face charges.
Chautauqua County Sheriff’s deputies report they stopped a vehicle around 3 a.m. on Routes 5 and 20 after a lane violation in the town of Hanover. Upon investigation, a loaded handgun was reportedly located in the vehicle with a high-capacity magazine.
While deputies were securing the firearm, the vehicle allegedly fled the scene of the traffic stop.
Deputies were led at a high rate of speed through the village of Silver Creek and into the town of Sheridan. While following the vehicle, deputies reportedly lost sight of it around a curve.
Deputies observed debris in a yard near Route 5 and Newell Road and subsequently located the crashed vehicle in a yard. Deputies, New York State Police and the Dunkirk Police Department secured the scene for emergency medical personnel.
An unidentified male was taken by Mercy Flight to Erie County Medical Center, while Shakilah A. Williams, 24, of Buffalo was transported to Brooks Memorial Hospital by Alstar Ambulance.
The investigation is continuing.

SINCLAIRVILLE – On Saturday, Chautauqua County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a complaint of a past-tense dispute that had occurred on Jamestown Street in Sinclairville.
It was discovered that an altercation had occurred between two individuals outside a local establishment. It is alleged that during the altercation, Ivory A. Fishgold, 33, of Sinclairville, did break the side window out of a vehicle belonging to another individual. The amount of damage is estimated to be over $250.
Deputies arrested Fishgold and charged her with felony third-degree criminal mischief.
Fishgold was arraigned in Charlotte Town Court and remanded to the Chautauqua County Jail.

FREWSBURG – Joseph Kinney, 33, of Jamestown was taken into custody Wednesday and charged with driving while intoxicated.
According to reports, Kinney was pulled over on Old Warren Road for failing to dim his high beams and after failing several sobriety tests, Kinney was placed under arrest.
Kinney was transported to the State Police barracks in Jamestown, where he allegedly provided a breath sample of .15 percent. Kinney was then processed, issued tickets returnable to Carroll Town Court and released.

Wanted man speeds from police before being ‘spiked’ to a stop
OBSERVER Staff Report
ELLICOTT – A Randolph man thought her could speed away from police – when his vehicle was disabled by spike strips, he resorted to his own two feet.
It ended the way most would assume. He was taken into custody.
Austin W. Slater, 31, was charged with several offenses Friday at about 2 p.m. after deputies were alerted to a wanted person operating a vehicle on North Main Street. Deputies, along with the Ellicott Police Department, located the vehicle and tried to pull Slater over. He did not comply.
Slater then upped the ante, leading multiple agencies on a vehicle pursuit through the towns of Ellicott, Ellington, Gerry, and Poland. Sheriff’s deputies were able to use spike strips on Gerry-Levant Road in Ellicott to disable the vehicle, and it ended up in a field. From there, Slater ran into a wooded area, but two legs are rarely faster than four. New York State Police K9 units, as well as other agencies, helped deputies chase Slater down. Staflight helped conduct a large-scale search of the area, and the Sheriff’s Office K9 Drago located Slater hiding in dense brush. (Drago takes pride in his work, and is very good at his job.)
Slater was taken into custody on the outstanding warrants and additionally charged with third-degree unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, second-degree obstructing government administration, reckless driving, failure to comply with a lawful order, second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, operating without an interlock device and speeding. He’ll have to answer his multiple charges in multiple courts.
Erie County Sheriff’s Office
- CONCORD – Scott Schober, 22, of Forestville was charged with multiple offenses Wednesday at about 6:30 p.m. after a deputy stopped Schober’s vehicle on Genessee Road in response to a complaint about an erratic driver.
When Schober was interviewed, the deputy noted Schober had glassy eyes and slurred speech, and that he lacked coordination. Standard field sobriety tests were administered and a drug recognition expert was called for further assessment. Following these procedures, Schober was deemed not sober and taken into custody.
His charges include driving while impaired by drugs, criminal possession of a controlled substance and possessing a controlled substance in a non-original container. He was then turned over to a family member.
- GRAND ISLAND – Brian Barrett, 36, of Collins was taken into custody after he was stopped by a deputy on Route 190 Wednesday shortly before 3 a.m. for alleged traffic violations.
The deputy found that Barrett’s license showed eight active suspensions. A plastic container of marijuana was also allegedly found in Barrett’s vehicle. Ultimately, the defendant was released with traffic and appearance tickets.

- SILVER CREEK – On Wednesday at about 8:42 p.m., deputies responded to the Dollar General store at 1360 Route 5 in Silver Creek for a shoplifting in progress. After an investigation, Traci L. Czaska, 25, of Brant, was taken into custody for petit larceny.
Czaska was later released with an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Hanover Town Court at a later date.

Miraya Vantino, 25, of Gowanda, entered a plea of guilty to third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, a class B felony, to satisfy a pending indictment. The incident occurred on or about June 24, 2015, in the village of Gowanda, when the defendant knowingly and unlawfully sold a narcotic substance. Sentencing has been scheduled for Sept. 25, 2017.

burglary suspect charged with dozen felonies
BUFFALO – Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports detectives have arrested a suspect in connection with a rash of residential burglaries over the past three weeks in the towns of Boston and North Collins.
Detectives assigned to the multiple cases and working with the Eden Police Department developed information from a vehicle observed at an Eden incident and resulted in identifying a suspect.
On Aug. 12, Daniel Bugenhagen, 36 of Hamburg, was arrested by Erie County Sheriff’s Detectives in the City of Buffalo and was charged with five counts of felony burglary, four counts of felony grand larceny, one count of felony attempted burglary, one count of felony criminal mischief, one count of felony criminal possession of stolen property and one count of misdemeanor petit larceny.
Bugenhagen is remanded to the Erie County Holding Center in lieu of $7,500 bail.
Sheriff’s Detectives utilized the newly created Sheriff’s Pawn Shop Database to locate and identify some of the stolen items from the burglaries.

ELLICOTT – Kane C. Kolstee, 44, of Jamestown was taken into custody Monday and charged with felony driving while intoxicated and aggravated DWI.
According to reports, Kolstee had stopped his vehicle on Hunt Road, where deputies located him at about 2:30 p.m. Kolstee was vomiting onto the roadway, and deputies discovered he was intoxicated.
Kolstee’s driving record showed a prior conviction for DWI within the past 10 years, making this offense a felony.
Kolstee was processed and released, and will answer his charges in Ellicott Town Court.
FRENCH CREEK – Andrew P. Cooper, 27, of French Creek was charged with multiple offenses Sunday at about 9:40 p.m. after deputies answered calls of a vehicle that had smashed into a telephone pole on French Creek-Mina Road.
The driver was identified as Cooper, and deputies discovered that he was intoxicated.
He was taken into custody and charged with driving while intoxicated, aggravated DWI (blood alcohol content .08 percent or more), unlicensed operation, moving from a lane unsafely and no seat belt. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
HANOVER – Christine L. Veith, 61, of Buffalo was charged with driving while intoxicated, DWI per se and moving from a lane unsafely Sunday just after 10 p.m.
According to reports, Veith committed a lane violation on Routes 5 & 20, drawing the attention of patrolling deputies.
They stopped Veith’s vehicle and investigated, ascertaining that she was intoxicated, and took her into custody. She will answer for her actions in Hanover Town Court.

Suspect, 18, charged in double stabbing on Cattaraugus reservation
BUFFALO – Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports this morning a suspect was located and charged in an incident that occurred Sunday around 4 a.m. on the Seneca Nation of Indians Reservation.
Deputies were dispatched to a Bush Road residence for reports of a double stabbing; one victim sustained lacerations to his neck, orbital area and eyelid while the other victim sustained a wound to his hand. The victim with the facial cuts was transported to Erie County Medical Center for treatment and the second victim went to Lake Shore Health Care Center in Irving for the hand injury.
In the meantime, detectives located the subject, Shade John, at a nearby residence and took him into custody without incident. John, 18, of Collins, was charged with a felony count of assault with intent to cause physical injury, a misdemeanor count of criminal possession of a knife and a misdemeanor count of menacing.
The defendant is housed at the Erie County Holding Center pending his arraignment.
Two teens charged after stealing guns, ammo
JAMESTOWN – Two Jamestown teens were charged Sunday after allegedly stealing a mass of rifles and ammunition from a local sporting goods store.
According to Jamestown police, a 17-year-old male and 16-year-old female allegedly burglarized Chautauqua Shooters Supplies, located at 935 E. Second St., at around 10 a.m.
Police were notified of the burglary by members of the public. On scene, officers located both subjects with the assistance of the New York State Police K-9 and Ellicott Police Department.
The stolen weapons and ammunition were later recovered, police said.
Both teens were charged with third-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief and possession of burglar tools.
They were transported to the Jamestown City Jail to await arraignment.

- MAYVILLE – On Saturday at 8:25 a.m., Chautauqua County Sher-iff’s Office deputies were called to Webbs Hotel at 115 W. Lake Road for a larceny of a TV set and a computer system located in the hotel lobby.
An investigation led to the arrests of Vildan Lazari, 32, of Rockway, and P.V. Claire, 28, of Cambria Heights. Lazari was charged with petit larceny, third-degree criminal trespass, three counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana. Claire was charged with petit larceny, three counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana.
The stolen items were recovered and further investigation found the suspects in possession of a quantity of controlled substances. The subjects were arraigned and committed to county jail with bail set at $2,500. The investigation is continuing.
- SHERIDAN – On Sunday at about 1:14 a.m., deputies observed a vehicle on Route 20 operating without any tail lamps.
A deputy stopped the vehicle and identified the operator as Duane S. Nickerson, 43, of Fredonia. Through an investigation, deputies alleged that Nickerson was operating his vehicle while intoxicated. Nickerson was taken into custody and later released with appearance tickets for the charges of driving with no tail lamps, driving while intoxicated, and driving with .08 percent or more blood alcohol content.
Nickerson will appear in the Sheridan Town Court to answer to the charges.

- On Saturday, the New York State Police arrested Dominick Schrantz Jr., 38, of Dunkirk, for driving while intoxicated.
A trooper checked on a vehicle that pulled over for an unknown reason on Mid-dle Road in Sheridan and observed Schrantz Jr. be-hind the wheel exhibiting signs of alcohol intoxication.
Schrantz Jr. was placed under arrest after failing several standard field sobriety tests and transported to State Police James-town, where he provided a breath sample of .12 percent blood alcohol content.
Schrantz Jr. was then processed, issued tickets returnable to the Sheridan Town Court and released. He is scheduled to appear in Sheridan Town Court to answer the charge.

Gowanda Police
Zakery J. Raichlin, 27, of Gowanda was charged on Aug. 6 with a handful of charges after making a turn, but allegedly failing to use a turn signal on South Water Street.
At around 3:20 p.m., the officer discovered that Raichlin did not have his license after it was revoked on March 28, 2011 when he was driving while impaired. Also during the traffic stop, an Erie County Sheriff Department K-9 unit found “a baggie containing .7 grams of marijuana…,” the report reads.
His charges include failure to signal a turn, second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, unlicensed operation and unlawful possession of marijuana. Raichlin was issued tickets and will appear in Persia Town Court.
Leroy K. Lash, 54, of Amherst was charged on Wednesday with expired inspection, second-degree aggravated operation and operating a vehicle with no alcohol interlock device.
Lash was stopped after police observed his expired inspection and after a computer check, it was revealed that Lash’s license was revoked eight times from December 1994 to April 2014 for various reasons.
Due to his driving while intoxicated conviction, Lash was required to operate a vehicle with an alcohol interlock device, which it allegedly did not have.
Lash was released with appearance tickets and will appear in Collins Town Court.
Robert E. Muenzer Jr., 30, of Gowanda was charged on Thursday with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation after Muenzer’s motorcycle was allegedly involved in an accident.
The computer check found that Muenzer’s license was suspended seven times from July 2012 to March 2016 for “various reasons, including his failure to appear in various courts for traffic citations, an insurance lapse and failure to pay child support,” the report reads.
Muenzer was released with tickets and will appear in Persia Town Court.
Cherie L. White, 24, of Lawtons was arrested on Friday at around 2:45 p.m. after the Gowanda Police Department interviewed her for a reported hit and run accident.
However, when the department did a computer check, it revealed that there was an active warrant for White’s arrest in the town of Hamburg for failure to appear in court after being charged with aggravated unlicensed operation and for operating a vehicle with a suspended registration.
White was turned over to the Hamburg Town Police for processing.

CHAUTAUQUA – Douglas Bush Jr., 47, of Mayville was charged with second-degree unlawful imprisonment Wednesday after deputies responded to complaints of a disorderly male at a residence on Centralia Hartfield Road.
After an investigation, it was determined that Bush had prevented a victim at the residence from leaving during an argument. The victim made several attempts to leave the residence, but was allegedly kept inside by Bush.
A warrant was served on Bush for unlawful imprisonment and he was arraigned in Chautauqua Town Court, then taken to Chautauqua County Jail on $500 cash bail.
David Pacos, 68, of Forestville was charged with driving while intoxicated Monday shortly before 11 p.m.
According to reports, deputies checked a suspicious vehicle near a business on South Roberts Road in the town of Dunkirk. Pacos was identified as the operator of the vehicle, and after an investigation, it was alleged that he was intoxicated.
Pacos was taken into custody and issued tickets for DWI and DWI per se, having a blood alcohol content of .08 percent or higher. Pacos will answer the charges in Dunkirk Town Court.

Officer assaulted at Gowanda prison
GOWANDA – The rise in violence inside state prisons in Western New York continued this week when an officer was assaulted at Gowanda Correctional Facility.
On Aug. 7 at approximately 5 p.m., an inmate, Adeola Koiki, charged into the officers’ station and grabbed a radio that had been confiscated from him earlier. The officer in the office attempted to restrain the inmate and called for a response as the inmate continued to fight. A second officer arrived at the office and Koiki turned, with the radio now in his hand, and struck the officer on the left side of his face.
The two officers were able to get the inmate restrained and he was removed from the office and was placed in a special housing unit inside the medium security correctional facility.
The officer sustained a lacerated lip and minor injuries to his jaw. He was treated at the facility infirmary.
Koiki is serving a seven-year sentence after being convicted for first-degree rape, first-degree sexual abuse and first-degree criminal sexual act in Kings County in 2013.

- Lauren K. Johnson, 28, of Dunkirk was charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle on Aug. 3.
- Oscar Rodriguez-Vazquez, 20, of Dunkirk was issued three traffic tickets for driving while intoxicated, DWI per se and consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle on Aug. 7.
- Steven L. Miller, 58, of Cassadaga was charged with driving without insurance, driving with a suspended registration, driving with a suspended license and driving with an altered inspection on Aug. 10.

- Jose M. Correc, 36, of Dunkirk was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument on Aug. 3. Correc was also charged two days later, on Aug. 5, with criminal contempt.
- Sean R. Ross, 48, of Dunkirk was charged with criminal obstruction of breathing, second-degree menacing, second-degree unlawful imprisonment and resisting arrest on Aug. 4.
- Jason Rosas, 32, of Dunkirk was charged with driver’s view obstructed and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle on Aug. 5.
- Jason E. Marin, 34, of Dunkirk was charged with disorderly conduct on Aug. 6. Later the same day, Marin was charged with third-degree criminal tampering.
- Brian R. Levandoski, 53, of Dunkirk was charged with running a stop sign, speed not reasonable, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to keep right and driving while intoxicated on Aug. 6.
- Alfredo Valentin Jr., 23, of Dunkirk was charged with no seatbelt, driving an uninspected vehicle, driving without insurance, driving an unregistered vehicle, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, driver’s view obstructed and third-degree criminal possession of stolen property on Aug. 7.
- Dylan K. Sugden, 21, of Fredonia was charged with third-degree robbery, petit larceny and criminal mischief on Aug. 8.
- Gail A. Korzeniewski, 58, of Dunkirk was charged with third-degree grand larceny on Aug. 8.
- Patrick Brockhaus, 30, of Irving was charged with endangering the welfare of a child on Aug. 8.

Police investigating shooting on Spring Street

JAMESTOWN – A male victim was reportedly shot in the hand Tuesday evening while riding his bike in the area of East Sixth Street and Spring Street.
According to the Jamestown Police Department, investigators responded to the scene after a report of shots fired came in at 9:18 p.m.
Investigators believe an Hispanic male and a black male approached the victim and fired multiple times. They do not believe this was a random act and that the victim was likely targeted.
The victim was taken to WCA Hospital and later to UMPC Hamot for non-life-threatening injuries.

ELLERY – Gregory D. Albert, 25, of Jamestown was charged with several offenses after he was taken into custody July 23 at about 2:22 a.m. According to reports, deputies had stopped his vehicle for crossing over the center line on Route 430. After an investigation, it was ascertained that Albert was intoxicated. His charges include failure to keep right, driving while intoxicated, and DWI per se. He will answer for his actions in Ellery Town Court.
BUSTI – Barbara L. Lobb, 27, of Busti was charged with offenses related to welfare fraud Wednesday at about 10 a.m. It is alleged that from Feb. 1, 2015 through Oct. 31, 2015, Lobb failed to notify the Chautauqua County Department of Social Services that she was receiving income from two different sources. Lobb had claimed that she and another individual living with her had no household income on her application for assistance. These unreported issues allowed for Lobb to receive $3,800 in unentitled benefits. Lobb is scheduled to appear in Jamestown City Court at a later date. DEWITTVILLE – Gretchen A. Kleinfelder, 31, of Mayville was involved in a personal injury accident Sunday at about 3:30 p.m. on Route 430, according to reports. Allegedly, Kleinfelder had swerved to avoid striking a vehicle that was turning onto Route 430. Kleinfelder’s vehicle struck an embankment, became airborne, and then landed on the greens of the Point Chautauqua Golf Course. The four passengers in her car were transported to Westfield Memorial Hospital for apparently minor injuries. Mayville, Maple Springs and Dewittville fire departments assisted.
SHERIDAN – Beth-any M. West, 22, of Silver Creek was taken into custody Tuesday shortly after 2 a.m. and charged with several offenses. Allegedly, deputies responded to a report of a suspicious situation on Old Main Road and found West slumped over the steering wheel of her vehicle, which was partially blocking the roadway. During the investigation, deputies found cocaine. West’s charges include parking on pavement, unlicensed operation, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and endangering the welfare of a child. She was arraigned in Sheridan Town Court and taken to Chautauqua County Jail.
SHERMAN – George H. Anderson Jr., 27, of Dallas, Texas, was taken into custody Sunday shortly before 5 a.m. Allegedly, deputies attempted to stop Anderson’s vehicle on I-86 for an equipment violation, but he continued to drive into Pennsylvania. At that time, the deputies were assisted by Pennsylvania State Police. Anderson had continued on I-90 west and was eventually stopped near Exit 35. The Pennsylvania State Police took him into custody and held him on charges. CCSO deputies filed an arrest warrant for Anderson for the New York charges, which include second-degree obstructing governmental administration, failure to comply with a lawful order, no/inadequate headlights and moving from a lane unsafely. He will be extradited back to New York to face these charges at a later date.
Roger Nieves, 41, of Dunkirk was charged with theft of services Sunday at about 4:15 p.m. after an incident at the local Denny’s Restaurant on Bennett Road. Allegedly, Nieves had refused to pay his dining bill. He was issued an appearance ticket after an investigation and will answer for his actions in Pomfret Town Court.
STOCKTON – Dennis W. Deck, 49, of Sherman was taken into custody July 27 and charged with petit larceny. According to reports, Deck had stolen money from a business that employed him. He will answer charges in Stockton Court.
HANOVER – Randale C. Robertson, 19, of Buffalo was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana Sunday shortly after 7 p.m. According to reports, Robertson was in a vehicle that was stopped by deputies for a traffic violation on Iola Drive in Sunset Bay, and the marijuana was found after a brief investigation. Robertson was released with an appearance ticket and will answer for himself in Hanover Town Court.
HANOVER – Reginald R. Johnson, 30; and Angelica M. Rivera, 27, were each charged with open container in a public place Sunday after deputies approached the pair in a Sunset Bay roadway. Deputies allegedly noticed Johnson and Rivera possessed beverages, and the subjects stated that the beverages were alcoholic. They were released with appearance tickets and will answer in Hanover Town Court.
BUSTI – Jacqueline K. Cavanaugh, 53, of Spring, Texas, was charged with several offenses Sunday after deputies stopped her vehicle on Southwestern Drive. The operator was identified as Cavanaugh and investigation found her to allegedly be intoxicated. Cavanaugh was taken into custody and later refused a chemical test of her breath. She was arraigned in Busti Town Court and released on her own recognizance. Cavanaugh will return to answer charges of driving while intoxicated, failure to keep right, moving from a lane unsafely and refusing to submit to a roadside breath test.

Fredonia man charged with petit larceny
LAKEWOOD – On Monday at about 6:13 p.m., Lakewood-Busti Police responded to Wal-mart for a larceny in progress.
Upon arrival, Lakewood-Busti Police apprehended Jeffrey Baker, 52, of Fre-donia for allegedly stealing items belonging to Wal-Mart. He was charged with petit larceny and will appear in the Town of Busti Court.
Concord man
with 15 suspensions arrested after crash
CONCORD – Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports road patrol deputies and the Crash Investigation Unit responded to a rollover crash along Woodside Road in the Town of Concord Thursday just before 7 a.m.
When deputies arrived they observed a vehicle resting on its roof and a male lying down near the scene. During their investigation the Deputies discovered Joshua Hopkins, 32 of Concord, has 15 active suspensions on his license for failing pay fines and answer summonses in the Village of Springville and the towns of Wales and Boston.
Further investigation, revealed Hopkins was impaired and subsequently he was charged with DWI, refusing a breath test, operating a vehicle without a license, and various traffic violations.
Hopkins was transported to South Buffalo Mercy Hospital for additional evaluation and treatment of non-life-threatening injuries sustained during the crash.
The defendant was re-leased on appearance tickets.

Vehicle lands on golf course greens
DEWITTVILLE – On Sunday at around 3:30 p.m., Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a motor vehicle accident in the area of Point Chautauqua Golf Course.
Through an investigation, it was determined the vehicle involved had swerved to avoid striking a vehicle turning onto Route 430. The vehicle struck a earth embankment and became airborne. The vehicle then landed on the greens of the golf course.
The four unnamed occupants of the vehicle were transported to Westfield Memorial Hospital for apparent minor injuries. Mayville, Maple Springs, and Dewittville Fire Departments also responded to assist.
Pa. man charged with impaired driving after accident
CARROLL – A Warren, Pa., man was charged with second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation and driving while ability impaired by a combination of drugs and alcohol after Chautauqua County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of an accident on Riverside Road Friday night. Eric D. Olson, 47, was allegedly found around 7:20 p.m. unconscious behind the wheel of his vehicle that was off the side of the road.
Investigation found Olson was allegedly under the influence of drugs and alcohol. He was transported to WCA Hospital for treatment. A check found Olson’s driving privileges had been suspended in New York state. He was issued tickets and will appear in Carroll Town Court at a later date.

MAYVILLE – Dustin M. Graziano, 19, of Mayville was charged Aug. 3 with failure to stop at a stop sign and unlawful possession of marijuana following a traffic stop on Lakeview Avenue just after midnight. Investigation allegedly found Graziano in possession of a small quantity of marijuana. He was issued tickets and will appear in Chautauqua Town Court at a later date.
RIPLEY – Mitchell R. Urban, 24, of North East, Pa., was charged Saturday with speeding, driving while intoxicated and aggravated DWI with a blood alcohol content of .18 percent or higher after a traffic stop on Route 20 around midnight. Urban was allegedly found to be intoxicated and was taken into custody. He was later released with appearance tickets for Ripley Town Court.
SHERMAN – On Sunday, around 2:24 a.m., deputies stopped a vehicle on Sherman Steadman Road in the town of Sherman for making an improper turn. The driver was identified as Mary B. Reynolds, 51, of Potter Road in Mayville. Upon investigation, she was alleged to have been intoxicated. Reynolds was taken into custody and later released with tickets for improper turn, driving while intoxicated, and DWI per se. She will appear in the Sherman Town Court at a later date.

Tracy L. Gawor, 45, of Gowanda, was charged on July 18 at 10 p.m. with second-degree harassment. Police report that Gawor was in a verbal argument that went physical. She allegedly closed the victim’s arm in a door, pulled their hair and then knocked the victim on a cement floor. It all resulted in a minor injury. Gawor was issued tickets and will appear in Persia Town Court.
Christopher A. Meslinski, 39, of Lawtons, was charged on July 27 at 8 a.m. with criminal mischief. Police reported to a disturbance on Chestnut Street and was notified that Meslinski was not allowed in the residence. He allegedly damaged the door handle. Meslinski was given a ticket and will appear in Persia Town Court.
Anastasia J. Mercado, 29, of Gowanda, was arrested on July 31 at 8:36 p.m. after Gowanda Police Department was notified of the arrest warrant in Evans. The warrant was given due to her failure to appear in court. She was turned over to the Evans Town Police for processing.
William J. Merecki, 30, of Angola, was arrested on July 18, at 3:05 p.m. after Gowanda Police Department was notified of the arrest warrant in Evans. Merecki was arrested and turned over to the Evans Town Police for processing.

KIANTONE – a postal vehicle was involved in an accident Friday at about 2 p.m. at the intersection of Route 62 and Riverside Road. According to reports, Jerrold Roosa, 23, of Northeast, Pa., was operating a U.S. Postal vehicle west on Riverside Road when he failed to yield the right of way to an oncoming Jeep traveling north on Route 62. The Jeep, operated by Tyler Skarzenski, was struck by the postal vehicle on the driver’s side and overturned at least one time. Skarzenski and a passenger were transported to WCA Hospital via ambulance with minor injuries and Roosa was treated at the scene and released. Investigation is pending. CCSO was assisted at the scene by Kiantone Fire Department, Alstar Ambulance and Frewsburg Fire Department.

ELLINGTON – Mark Fancher, 55, of South Dayton was involved in an accident Thursday shortly before 3 p.m. on Route 83, according to reports. Allegedly, he lost control of his vehicle, traveled off the east side of the roadway, struck a driveway abutment, went airborne and finally came to a stop in a yard. Fancher was transported to Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk for evaluation by Ellington Fire Department.
MAYVILLE – Rebecca M. Scanlon, 22, of Shaker Heights, Ohio, was charged with failure to keep right, driving while intoxiated and DWI per se Saturday around 2:15 a.m. Scanlon was stopped on West Main Road after allegedly crossing the center line. She was alledgedly found to be intoxicated and was taken into custody. She was later released with appearance tickets for Chautauqua Town Court.

MAYVILLE – David L. McLaughlin II, 47, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child Wednesday shortly before 8 p.m. Deputies responded to a residence in the town of Chautauqua for a report of a physical altercation where they allegedly found McLaughlin intoxicated and engaged in verbal and physical altercations with several subjects on the premises. Investigation found that McLaughlin had become upset and pushed a female who was holding a 3-month-old baby. There were no injuries to the female or the baby. McLaughlin was taken into custody and will answer the charge in Chautauqua Town Court.

Sheridan man accused of choking woman
SHERIDAN – Mat-thew R. Greenough, 27, of Sheridan was taken into custody Tuesday at about 8:40 p.m. and charged with criminal obstruction of breathing. Allegedly, there had been an altercation between him and a female, during which Greenough had placed his hands on the woman’s throat and choked her. He was taken to Chautauqua County Jail on $500 cash or $1,000 property bail.

BEMUS POINT – On Tuesday, just before 7:30 p.m. while Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Deputies were on patrol, an unnamed subject was found floating in Chautauqua Lake He had fallen overboard a small fishing boat and was unable to get back in, and had been floating for about thirty minutes. He complained of leg numbness and was unable to stand. Deputies got into the water with him and lifted him into a patrol boat and met Bemus Point rescue. The subject was evaluated and assisted by Bemus Rescue as well as turned over to them.

- Drew Roger Ellian, 17, of Valparaiso, Indiana, was charged with leaving the scene of a property accident, failure to stop at a stop sign, speed not reasonable, unlicensed operator and driving while under the influence of drugs and alcohol on July 31. Ellian was traveling north on Center Street at a high rate of speed and failed to stop at the stop sign on the corner of Center Street and Risley Street. Ellian left the roadway and struck a house at 63 Risley St., causing major damage to the vehicle and the house.
Ellian left the scene but was located shortly after and arrested. He is currently being held at Chautauqua County Jail in lieu of bail pending a future court date.

- Selena L. Diaz, 21, of Fredonia was charged with second-degree harassment on Tuesday. Diaz was issued an appearance ticket to appear in court at a later date.
- Lauren K. Johnson, 28 of Dunkirk was charged with and issued a traffic ticket for third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle on Wednesday.

JAMESTOWN ?- A Rochester man faces several charges after leading Jamestown police on a chase around 8:45 a.m. today that began near Fairmount and Hall avenues and ended on Sturges Street, near Crossman Street.
Police report attempting to pull over a vehicle reportedly driven by Nicholas C. Brown, 26, of Rochester, for vehicle and traffic infractions. Brown led police on a high-speed chase and, after finally stopping the vehicle on Sturges Street, ran away from police Brown was eventually caught after a foot chase on Winsor Street near Price Street. Police report Brown refused to listen to commands until officers were able to place him into custody. He was taken to the Jamestown City Jail until he can be arraigned.
Brown has been charged with two counts of obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest, third-degree unlawfully fleeing a police officer, second-degree aggravated unlicensed operator, reckless driving and 10 vehicle and traffic infractions.

1 dead, 2 injured in Reservation accident

IRVING – One person has died and two others sustained unknown injuries after a two-vehicle crash on Route 5 on the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation Tuesday.
According to Buffalo media outlets, the Erie County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the fatality, which occurred after a head-on collision around 8:30 a.m. Two people were reportedly taken to the Erie County Medical Center by Mercy Flight, but a female passenger was declared dead on arrival. A third person was reportedly taken by ambulance.
Traffic was diverted from the crash site – between Milestrip Road in Irving and Commercial Street in Farnham – for several hours after the accident.
The incident remains under investigation.
Brocton man charged in pushing person down stairs

BROCTON – A 26-year-old village resident is facing charges after allegedly pushing another person down a flight of stairs Monday night.
Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a possible assault victim on Central Avenue. Deputies arrived on the scene with the assistance of the Westfield Police Department. After an investigation, it was determined that Adam Neubauer of Central Avenue pushed the victim, who was standing on a flight of stairs. This caused the victim to fall down and sustain injuries.
The victim was transported by EMS to Brooks Memorial Hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries. Neubauer was charged with third-degree assault and sent to the Chautauqua County Jail.

JAMESTOWN – Am-anda J. Garcia Birt, 26, of Jamestown was charged Tuesday at about 10:20 a.m. following a welfare fraud investigation by the Chau-tauqua County Sheriff’s Office and the DHHS Program Integrity Unit. It is alleged that Garcia Birt failed to report employment income to Social Services. As a result of the alleged unreported income, she received $1,357 in food stamps to which she was not entitled. Garcia Birt is charged with fourth-degree grand larceny and misuse of food stamps. She was issued appearance tickets for an arraignment in Jamestown City Court. Instances of suspected welfare fraud may be reported by calling the hotline 1-800-388-5365.
HANOVER – Quentin J. Lawton, 22, of Silver Creek and Jaralyn E. Majak, 27, also of Silver Creek were each charged with second-degree harassment following an incident Monday that occurred shortly before noon. According to reports, deputies were called to a residence on Hanover Road for an alleged disturbance. After an investigation, both subjects were taken into custody. They were arraigned in Sheridan Town Court for the town of Hanover, then taken to Chautauqua County Jail with bail set at $500. Earlier that same day, Lawton was charged with second-degree harassment for an incident that allegedly occurred on Angell Road. He was issued an appearance ticket and will answer that charge in Hanover Town Court.
JAMESTOWN – Suzan M. Chase, 54, of Jamestown was charged with welfare fraud Tuesday at about 1:30 p.m. following a joint investigation by the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office and the DHHS Program Integrity Unit. It is alleged that while receiving food stamps, a member of Chase’s household was receiving employment income and that income was not reported to Social Services. As a result of the alleged unreported income, Chase received $1,079 in unentitled food stamps. Her charges include fourth-degree welfare fraud, fourth-degree grand larceny, first-degree offering a false instrument for filing and misuse of food stamps. She was issued appearance tickets for a Jamestown City Court.
JAMESTOWN – Amanda R. Ashley, 27, of Jamestown was charged with disorderly conduct Monday at about 1:30 p.m. Allegedly, she was at the South County Office Building when she was observed by members of the public and a deputy using obscene language, and continued to do so even after she received a warning. Ashley was issued an appearance ticket and will answer charges in Jamestown City Court.

KENNEDY – On Saturday, New York State Police charged Charlene Mesel, 53, of Kennedy for driving while intoxicated.
Mesel was pulled over on Route 62 in Kennedy for allegedly failing to dim her high beams, but was taken into custody after allegedly failing several standard field sobriety tests. Mesel was transported to State Police Jamestown barracks, where she reportedly provided a breath sample of .14 percent blood alcohol content.
Mesel was then processed, issued tickets returnable to the Poland Town Court and released, to appear in court next month.

Details announced about ATV accident
CHARLOTTE – The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department has provided an update on the all-terrain vehicle accident Sunday night outside of Sinclairville.
On Sunday at approximately 8:20 p.m., deputies responded to North Hill Road in the town of Charlotte for a report of a non-auto personal injury accident. Timothy Lerow, 34, of North Hill Road was operating an ATV at an unsafe speed on a well road and lost control.
The ATV overturned, coming to a rest on its rollbars with Lerow pinned underneath.
Lerow was taken to Brooks Memorial Hospital by Sinclairville Rescue for non-life threatening injuries.
Passenger Richard Langworthy, 63, of Sinclair Drive, Sinclairville, did not sustain any injuries in the accident.
Child injured in boating accident
CHAUTAUQUA – A 4-year-old was injured Sunday while his family was boating on Chautauqua Lake near Chautauqua Institution.
According to a police report, the Chautauqua County Marine Division was called to the scene of a reported vessel accident on Chautauqua Lake at 12:20 p.m. Sunday.
A family was tubing on the lake with several children on board and decided to switch to skiing. They brought the tube into the vessel and placed it in the bow of the vessel while they skied.
A 4-year-old was playing under the tube in the bow of the vessel when the wind from the vessel traveling down the lake combined with lake winds, thus lifting the tube with the youngster hanging on to it.
While being ejected, the child struck the split windshield of the vessel, cutting his groin and also fracturing his ankle.
The tube and the child hanging on to it were thrown into the lake. All occupants of the vessel were wearing life jackets at the time of the accident.
Police reported that due to the fact the child was wearing a life jacket and the quick response of family members, the child was immediately recovered from the lake and rushed to shore at Chautauqua Institution.
The family and child were assisted and treated on shore by the Chautauqua Police Department and Chautauqua Fire Department and taken by Starflight to Buffalo Women and Children’s Hospital.

RIPLEY – Daniel A. Kalie, 54, of Fairview, Pennsylvania, was stopped by deputies on South State Street Saturday at about 10:30 p.m. for alleged speeding.
After an investigation, Kalie was deemed to be intoxicated.
He was taken into custody and charged with driving while intoxicated, DWI with a blood alcohol content of .08 percent or greater, speed in zone and failure to dim headlights.
He will answer the charges in Ripley Town Court.
FORESTVILLE – Kenneth W. Brightman, 29, of Sherman was taken into custody Monday shortly before 7 p.m. and charged with petit larceny.
According to reports, it is alleged that Brightman stole money from another individual.
He will answer the charge in Hanover Town Court.
- NORTH HARMONY – On Sunday, at approximately 2 a.m., deputies located an occupied vehicle parked on the side of Panama Stedman Road at Stedman Corners.
Deputies identified the operator as Kristina D. Joy, 31, of Jamestown.
After a short investigation, Joy was found to be in possession of a small quantity of narcotics.
Joy was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, and stopping on a highway. Joy was issued an appearance ticket for North Harmony Town court to answer for the above charges.
