≤ CHAUTAUQUA — On May 2 at around 3 a.m., deputies on patrol stopped a vehicle on Potter Road for an observed violation. Deputies made contact with the driver, Lindsey K. Johnson, 34, of Warren, Pa., and identified the passenger as Michael W. Brant, 42, of Warren, Pa. While speaking to Brant, deputies allegedly observed drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle. Sheriff’s Office K9 Link was deployed on a narcotics sniff of the vehicle and did alert to the presence of narcotics within the vehicle. Inside, deputies located a digital scale with drug residue and a quantity of methamphetamine. Brant was arrested and charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Johnson was charged with failure to signal turn, unlicensed operator and unregistered motor vehicle. Both are scheduled to appear in Chautauqua County Court at a later date.

≤ SHERIDAN — On May 4 at about 2:17 a.m., deputies checked a suspicious vehicle on Route 20. The operator was identified as Michael A. Chiappetta, 43, of North Collins, and subsequent investigation allegedly found him to be intoxicated. Chiappetta was taken into custody and charged with DWI and refusing a breath test. After processing, Chiappetta was released with traffic tickets and will appear in Town of Sheridan Court at a later date.

≤ A New York City resident has turned himself in after charges stemming from an incident that occurred last week.

At about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Bediako Nyasa, 23, was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny after allegedly taking a credit card at a Vineyard Drive business that belonged to a male victim and using it for his own benefit. He was transported to the Chautauqua County Jail to be arraigned in front of CAP.

Gowanda Police

≤ GOWANDA — On April 15 at about 10:43 p.m., patrol responded to a report of a hit and run property damage accident on Sandhill Road. Patrol was notified that Karen L. Byrne, 63, of Gowanda, allegedly struck a vehicle with her own vehicle and left the scene. Patrol located Byrne at her residence and observed extensive damage to her vehicle. Byrne also reportedly exhibited signs of intoxication and failed several sobriety checks. Byrne was arrested and charged with DWI and leaving the scene of a property damage accident. Byrne’s subsequent chemical breath test resulted in a conclusion of 0.12 BAC. Byrne was released on an appearance ticket for Town of Collins Court.

¯ GOWANDA — On April 21 at around 12 a.m., Archie Powell, 35, of Gowanda, was turned over to Gowanda Police. On June 18, 2018, Powell was arrested by Gowanda Police for third-degree assault, obstructing governmental administration and child endangerment. When Powell failed to appear for a subsequent court appearance, Town of Persia Court issued a warrant for his arrest. On April 20, Powell was encountered by Town of Hamburg Police and arrested on this warrant. Per Town of Persia Court, Powell was released on an appearance ticket to appear at a later date.
