Firework mishap injures woman

A woman was taken to Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo late Thursday after a fireworks accident in the town of Dunkirk.

Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies and the Fredonia Fire Department responded to Bayshore Drive and investigated the scene and found a 58-year-old female victim was allegedly struck by a firework lit by a neighbor around 10:15 p.m. The victim was taken to the hospital for evaluation of her injuries. An investigation is currently ongoing.

Altercation in Irving leads to arrest

IRVING — An altercation early Friday morning led to charges for a Silver Creek man.

Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies reported the incident occurred just after midnight at an address on Iola Drive. It is alleged that John Lemke, 46, of 12593 Alleghany Road was involved in an altercation in which he intentionally caused physical injury to another individual.

Lemke was arrested and charged with third-degree assault and released with an appearance ticket and is to answer to the charge in the Town of Hanover court at a later date.

Convicted felon found with weapons, drugs

GOWANDA — A 27-year-old convicted felon is in hot water after being found with drugs and weapons.

At roughly 11:08 a.m. June 27, patrol accompanied New York State Parole officers on a search of the apartment of Samantha K. Bettker, 27, of Gowanda, due to a suspicion of drug activity. Bettker is a convicted felon and was on parole for a class B felony in Wyoming County. During the search, the following items were allegedly located and confiscated: a fully loaded .762 semi-automatic rifle, one fully loaded drum feeder for the rifle, five magazines for the rifle, of which three were fully loaded, four swords, an assortment of knives and numerous pieces of drug paraphernalia.

Bettker was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, due to her previous felony conviction. Bettker was arraigned in town of Persia Court and remanded to Cattaraugus County Jail with no bail, pending a parole hearing.
